The Cleveland Cavaliers have the incredible fortune of owning the first and fourth overall selections in the 2011 NBA Draft, but a new report indicates they are open to moving at least one of them in order to upgrade their roster with a veteran contributor. Indeed, the Cavaliers offered the fourth pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for high-scoring small forward Rudy Gay, using the trade exception they received from the Miami Heat in the LeBron James sign-and-trade deal to absorb Gay’s salary, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress. Memphis said no. SBNation.com
Yes they did. Why would they wanna trade Gay for the fourth pick? They wouldn't even trade Gay for Kobe
That would be dumb.. they would still suck with Gay.. Might as well suck for another year and get more good players.
Did Cleveland really expect us to say yes? The sad thing is, they probably did. They said no because laughing hysterically was considered bad manners.
And we still wouldn't. Cleveland could offer the number 1 pick in the draft and we'd hang up in their faces.
what's with all the "we" talk, what? Do you personally answer the phone Wallace? Are you his assistant? The Grizz would be David Kahn dumb to turn down a #1 pick to keep Rudy Gay.
Really? That would be stupid on Memphis' part, Gay is a nice player but not worth what you guys are paying him. DD
Another man's trash is another man's treasure. Or, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We paid him what we did, to keep him. Cleveland doesn't seem to mind the salary, as I suspect, few teams would not mind having gay at that salary as well.
What, Just because Cleveland is desperate does not mean that Memphis should not take advantage. Gay is like Joe Johnson, a good player, but not worth a Max contract, you guys were arguably better as a team without him because the pieces fit together a little better. Rudy is a guy who hogs the ball, and the way Zach is playing, he should be priority one.... I think the Grizz should seriously consider trading Gay. My .02. DD
Ball Hog? Apparently you didn't realize it but we have Sam Young, Tony Allen, DA Mike Conley. What do you want Randolph taking 60 shots a game? The only one that is saying "arguably" are those that never saw memphis play for more than 2 games until the playoffs. Russell Westbrook is a ball hog. Gay is not. I would ask you for empirical proof but you don't have nothing but your "impression" that he is a ball hog, that stems from a playoff run that we made that was further than you thought we could get and therefore, Gay must be what held them back from the glory they attained. Nevermind the fact that you haven't seen Gay play in a series. Then if I ask you to assess why the grizzlies were booted out of the playoffs, if you were astute you might say it was due to the lack of a perimeter threat, but you'll probably make a statement that the thunder have stars and the grizzlies don't, which is a way that you can continue to belabor a poor argument. Let's just wait till next year. The grizzlies aren't trading Rudy Gay, so by next year, one of us is going to be for sure right and the other wrong. We'll figure it out then.
Memphis should have taken this deal IMO. They could have had a nice prospect at #4, no concerns about signing Marc, and could keep Shane or sign another three point shooter. I think the flexibility and depth they would receive is better than hanging onto what will become an albatross contract of Rudy Gay. I think it is a blessing for Cavaliers Memphis turned this down. It does not make sense for a lowly team to be committed to a bloated contract like this. Cavaliers will suck one more season and receive a true star in 2012 draft. Not fringe all-star being paid like superstar Rudy Gay.
Hmmmmmmm. Well, would they take Kevin Martin for #4?????????? Let's hope so, so we can get Minny bidding up for Martin.
Perhaps, but you have to consider that next season Gay's role is going to be greatly reduced to make room for what has been most effective for you guys (the post attack of Gasol and Randolph). Cleveland can get value out of him to you guys he will be an overpaid gunner. I find it hard to believe that Memphis will not in the very least do its due dilligence on this. Memphis had a great run but they are more than a healthy Rudy Gay away from being serious contenders.
