This news isn't any suprise. The 360 caters to a younger, more 'American' crowd anyway. RPGs aren't their staple or target audience.

To pile on the 'what type of game is best' debate- I love SF2, but newer fighting games require too many combos/button mashing. It's almost like learning the pattern to Pac-Man. Once you get that one chink in their defense, it's over. Boring. Classic SF2 and MK 1-2 have more strategy involved.

As for FPS- I frigging hate not seeing peripherally. The screen turning red when you're hit out of your line of sight drives me nuts. I can deal with an over-the-shoulder shooter like GOW because you can at least see the tracer of where the bullets are coming from and turn to defend yourself or at least run in the opposite direction.

I do love the classic RPG every now and then. Good for a rainy or sick day of just vegging out for 15 hours in front of the TV.

    LLEEEEEROOOYYYYY JENKINS!!

i've never got into fantasy RPGs. I had friends who loved FF for PS2 but i didnt 'get it'. That clip of those guys acting out a FF battle was perfect...those fights always seemed lame. its not so much the fantasy aspect, just the lack of real exciting gameplay. for example, i love diablo. hope they do another.

i never played WOW, heck i never played warcraft 3...come to think of it i dont know why. I loved the originals, guess the good news is that its cheaper now.

side note, i'll be looking forward to the new starcraft

A little tip for you: if you do like Oblivion at all, make sure to get the expansion for it ("Shivering Isles"). I liked the game fine as it was, but the expansion is twice as cool as the original game, IMO. It has a unique ambiance that the rest of the game doesn't have.
You know, I can't seem to find it at the moment, but like RC Cola I could've sworn Square was developing many titles based around FFXIII, and they originally said one was for the 360. Maybe I'll look again later, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read. I thought maybe FFXIII: Versus was originally slated for 360.
No kidding. I just hate the DOA games... too newbie-friendly for me. Not enough thinking. The SF games will be staples forever... my favorite fighting game of all time is still Capcom vs. SNK 2, with Guilty Gear X2 and Tekken 5 close behind (can't wait for Tekken 6). If you're a SF2 fan and haven't checked out Capcom vs. SNK 2, go do it now!
Might you be talking about Blue Dragon? Microsoft got together a "dream team" of developers to put together an RPG title for the 360 that they hoped would be a "system-selling" title in Japan. It kinda sorta worked... they packaged it with new systems, as well as selling it separately.
It comes out here in about 3 months, IIRC.

FF X battle system was a bit like the clip (although it did have Blitzball ;)), but FF XII is more like a MMO with real-time battles that are a little more exciting:
    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Oi2iUIEnhsM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Oi2iUIEnhsM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
The trailer for FF XIII seemed to indicate a similar battle system (although can anything it presented be an indicator of what the final product will be?), although I think they confirmed it wouldn't exactly be the same as the battle system used in FF XII. They called it something else that I can't remember at the moment.

No news about the FF vs 13 battle system IIRC, but I'm guessing it will be like Kingdom Hearts.

    Found the trailer:

Here is the article that came out about a year later that I've often referred to (not sure if many people here noticed it when it was released):
    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/719/719204p1.html

Most likely scenario might just be that it isn't a FF title, or the guy just didn't think of MMO games when he thought of any FF games coming to the 360.

Fable 2 is 2008 AFAIK. Probably late 2008 at that.

As for the JRPGs, Microsoft has been working with Mistwalker to create some games for the 360. Mistwalker contains a lot of former Square-Enix employees, including the FF creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. They created Blue Dragon and are working on Lost Odyssey, both of which are scheduled to be released in the US by the end of the year AFAIK (BD is like Dragon Quest, LO is like Final Fantasy). There are a few other JRPGs in development for the 360, but most of them are also coming to the PS3 or are smaller, niche titles (although I guess BD and LO might be considered that given the 360 audience).

edit: OK, this makes a lot of sense:

Of course, that was from a SE PR guy from their US branch, so he may not know as much as the Japanese staff. This was around a week ago BTW.
