No, Hayes must stay. The Rockets just need to make room for Deke and all will be fine.

Are you saying that one of our other PFs does a better job on such players?

No, they all struggle with that....Landry didn't learn in the San Antonio game by leaving Bonner, he left Lewis a couple of times tonight.

You're saying that after playing pathetic defense for 2 or 3 games? Wow!

You probably know, but Rick see their play during prctices.. If Dorsey can beat Chuck during practices, then Rick will probably play him.

Man, I have been lobbying for Chuck Hayes to be back in the starting lineup for awhile now. I think he plays better offensively with the starters because they draw more attention. When Van Gundy was here, he ran mostly Pick & Roll with McGrady/Hayes or fed the ball to Yao. The dude sets a screen that is as good as putting a brick wall in front of your defender. It's not surprising that his numbers went down when Rick "Offensive-Genius" Adelman came aboard.

Long story short, Yao/Scola is a weak frontline and playing Hayes with Landry makes little sense. You would want Hayes to start and have Scola come off the bench as your scoring punch. Scola needs shots and touches, but for crying out loud, I don't want him getting those touches when Yao and McGrady are on the floor.

You don't need 5 scorers to start the game. Case in point, we were as good and arguably better with Mutombo/Scola than we are now with Yao/Scola. Yao, bless him is a tree on defense and Scola just plays typical Euroleague defense.

Seriously, to the guys who keep saying "The Rockets are playing 5 on 4 with Chuck Hayes" (even you, Doug Collins, thats probably why you never won a championship), I say this, even if Chuck Hayes could score, do you want him taking shots instead of the other 4 guys in the starting lineup? I don't think so.

We need to hire a defensive assistant coach. It pisses me off how bad our defensive principles have eroded since JVG and Tom Tibby have left.

Who among our assistant coaches is suppose to concentrate on the defensive side? Elston Turner? He's suppose to be 2nd in command. TR Dunn? Sikma is suppose to be our big man coach, does that cover the defensive side also? Cause alot of our frontcourt players are doing a crappy job defending back picks and back cuts. I don't think RJ Adelman fits much into the equation.

The problem is that he blows alot of gimmie layups and "gotta make those layups to keep the defense honest" from the other Rockets players finding him open ad hitting him with a pass because no one is paying attention to him.

I love Chuck and and his D is vastly underrated but him on the offensive side makes me nervous as much as him on the FT line.

put chuck back to the starting 5? first i thought it's a silly idea, but you've presented your case pretty well. now i feel like i've really got something to think about.

turner is the guy in charge of defense, i think. he's done a decent job, but compared to jvg and tib, he's second class for sure.

to be honest, i've seen the genius of jvg on defensive side of the ball; but i am not ready just yet to say i've see the genius from adelman from offensive of the ball. may time prove me wrong.

Just a couple of times, but Lewis has a quick trigger........I actually thought this was the best defensive game Landry had all year...Landry did a pretty good job on him.

Yao/Scola works because Scola can hit that baseline jumper. Hayes is better with the bench mob +Tmac/Artest when everyone is running and moving around.

What we're doing right now is working so I don't think we should fix it.

i wouldn't exactly say its working....the last two games were good wins, but there's a lot to think about. The wizards were what, 1-7, with arenas and haywood out, and yet houston couldnt pull away until the very end and needed Rafer's 3 to close it out. This game, orlando had hedo out and dwight sat out a lot with foul trouble and Houston again just hung on to the win. What has clinched these wins for us hasnt really been the offense we're playing, but instead just good shots on the part of tmac, rafer and artest, which came from broken plays rather than set ones.

Chuck is a beast on defense and doesn't commit turnovers. Which is more than you can say about almost any rockets players. Chuck earns and deserves every minute he plays.

You do realize that playing the foul game is part of the game?

You do realize that T isn't yet healed nor close nor consistent as needed yet?

You do realize the same for Yming?

I dont think our offense has won anything, our defense is whats holding it together until our chemistry comes together.

Actually it's been the defense we have played down the stretch of these last two games....

This is why our team right now is playing lazy (I was going to start a thread about how lazy we're playing on D, but we won and thought I'd save it for another day, but I'll go ahead and touch on a little of it here).

It didn't matter if agent zero was out last night or if they were 1-7....their scrubs were killing us, because for most of the game we didn't play any damn defense. I strictly remember some scrub having a career (or season high) in that game. It wasn't until we got down in those games that we started playing defense like last year...........the defense we were playing to shut them out in the past 4 minutes of the game.

We did the same thing tonight.....played crappy defense....let another scrub (JJ Redick) get his season high.....allowed dribble penetration up the wazoo (I'm really getting tired about hearing how great a defender Alston is), then in the final minutes of the game we kicked the defense up a notch and actually acted like we gave a damn.

Yes their are players that play good "INDIVIDUAL DEFENSE" through out the game, but this team is at it's best when it's playing defense as one complete unit....closing out, switching on picks, and boxing out for rebounds.

If the Rockets were a football team, they would have the best "bend but don't break" defense in the league right now.........they are playing lazy D throughout 95% of the game and then stopping everything dead when it matters.

They're playing with fire and have already been burned a couple of times this season...(Hello Spurs game)...they need to address the lazy effort. Hopefully all we need is Shane.
