I'm fine with staying pat. I would have considered an Anderson salary dump had it not been too costly and if we had gotten a half decent big in return. But I'm good with our team now. Hopefully we can sign Bogut.
It may be good for us that nobody wanted Ryno. Dumping him for nothing in return doesn't help us win a championship this year. Positioning for some fantasy LeBron hunt isn't worth it either. We have a great team right now. The only position I would upgrade is a physical center that we can put in to bully Dremond Green when Nene can't play. Hopefully can can get Bogut in a buyout and send Black out of town.
One thing didn’t change in the flurry of trades today. GS and Houston are still the best 2 teams in the league
I counted three power forwards on the roster: Anderson, Tucker, and Zhou. I know Anderson isn't very good. But we don't have a lot of options at the 4 spot without playing small ball. I am not against small ball. But don't call guys like Ariza "power forwards."
Trevor is capable of playing huge minutes at PF for the Rockets, same for Moute. Who do the Rockets face in the playoffs where Anderson is a better defensive match up than Moute/Ariza? GS? Green? Nope... OKC? Anthony? Nope... Spurs? Aldridge? Maybe although Aldridge can’t guard Ariza.. You can say “don’t call guys like Ariza power forwards”, but if they can play heavy minutes at power forward, then they are in effect being a power forward. That doesn’t even count Tucker and his minutes. Maybe you should count again; Anderson, Moute, Ariza and Tucker all have played PF for the Rockets. You can call Zhou whatever the hell you want, he isn’t an NBA caliber player right now.
The fact that Ariza "could play" and "has played" heavy minutes at PF does not mean that it is ideal for him to do it full time. If it was, he would be playing PF all the time. If Anderson is really the "third best PF" on our team as you say, why do they still play such a third string guy almost 30 minutes a game? As bad a defender as Anderson is, he has the size to guard interior big men and grab rebounds. That's something Ariza and Moute can't do. It depends on match up, of course. But saying Anderson is the third best PF on our team is just not accurate. We only have two NBA caliber PFs on our team.
People rag on Ryano a lot but fact is he is still a key part of the rotation. So whatever you say about him MDA clearly values him.
I have no issues. I wanted to shore up some depth with something like Tarik Black + 2nd rounder for slight rotation upgrade but that's minor details. This team is quite deep already and if we can get a rotation piece from buyout market then we're pretty much set.
Anderson started off playing over 30 minutes a game and now he is down to 25 minutes a night. Let’s see how many minutes he is playing as the season progresses. Both Ariza and Moute are better players than Ryan Anderson while playing power forward. Further Anderson is at most an inch taller than Ariza and Moute. Further Moute only weighs 5-10 pounds less than Anderson. The league has been changing quickly and swings that can play the 4 are getting more and more time at the 4. You are entitled to your opinion, but Ariza and Moute are more productive at the 4 than Anderson and are better than Anderson. Further the amount of time each has seen at the 4 has increased over the course of the season.
Ryno is a rotation player and does help the Rockets in certain matchups and when his shot is falling. It isn’t that I think that Anderson is garbage as much as Ariza and Moute are very productive playing the 4. Likewise Anderson at center is very productive in moderation with the right matchups. The league has just changed a lot with the way officials call games and rule changes over the years.
I'm not sure what your point is. Brewer wasn't traded because he sucked, he was traded because was wanted my namesake
I don't dispute that both Ariza and Moute are better players than Anderson. But that's not the same as saying they are better at PF than Anderson. Harden is a far superior player than Capela but he is not a better center than Capela. See my point? I understand that wing players are playing more at the 4. Again, I am not against this kind of game. But I think there is still a niche for the so-called Stretch Fours. These players can play inside on defense and can shoot from outside on offense. Wing players like Ariza get abused if they are to defend in the low block for long periods.
