That actually gives the Texans two open roster spots - Nixon's and obviously Demeco's, which I had forgotten about. Hmm.

The Vrabel TD was well before Demeco's injury

Yeah it was but Nixon was on that play and he took the wrong guy you can clearly see. Near the goaline, Texans use 4 linebackers and Nixon was the 4th one.

Not to beat the dead horse, but Vrabel has 10 career receptions and they're all touchdowns.

If you see Mike Vrabel report as an eligible receiver near the goal line, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY COVER HIM!!

    Rant over...

Another reason they probably cut Nixon is they are probably looking for a true MLB. Most of the linebackers on there roster are outside linebackers including Nixon. Sharpton is there only true MLB. I like what I saw out of Sharpton in the preseason. I don't think Bentley is more than a special teams player and Adibi gets injured if you put a finger on him. I think the move Diles to MLB and start Adibi at WLB, and Cushing at SLB.

Nixon was also playing MLB, the touchdown was in the corner of the endzone, that is rarely the MLB's responsibility.

Why waive Nixon before you have a replacement?

I think that's their thinking, too. I would like to just put Sharpton at mike, but as the defensive signal caller, I think that is a bit too much pressure on a rookie.

They probably have a replacement but just haven't announced it yet, street FAgent type. Question I'd have is what position are they looking to add, since all their LBs will get healthy by the Colts game.

Nixon never was playing MLB. Diles moved to MLB in the 2nd half. In the interview on the radio with Nixon yesterday he said he was playing WLB which was a new position for him since he had been practing at SLB once Texans claimed in September. My guess is they didn't see much in practice from him the first 6 weeks and found someone else who they liked better.

He said on the radio yesterday that he played WLB after Demeco was hurt.

Go watch the play, its on NFL.com. He was definitely lined up at MLB with Cushing on the outside

My guess is they sign two linebackers or one linebacker and return guy. Adibi gets hurt all time so don't ever count him healthy even if he is. He is like Bennie Joppru.

Yep, they did workout that RBack this morning and he is also a return guy so that makes perfect sense.

You might be right but I think remember Nixon blowing the play when I saw the reply during the game. He is gone and it's no big deal. I am sure they didn't cut him based only his performance yesterday. He probably didn't show much potential in practice. The only reason he was active is because the other 3 linebackers in front of him were hurt. Texans were 3-0 when Nixon was active so like Vince Young, all he does is win.

it's amazing that Vrable is known for catching TDs in a goalline situation and still, people fail to cover him.

Dolphins cut Bobby Carpenter today. I know he was a bust but is a good at pass coverage. He used to be the Cowboys 3rd down linebacker. I am sure he would be one of the guys Texans look at.
