This NLCS makes me sick b/c:

    1) the Astros aren't playing in it

    2) Beltran is crushing the Cards & he is not in a Stros uni

    3) the Cards are there

Wagner got lucky... Pujols hits a screamer that finds Delgado's glove, Encarnacion hits a ball up the middle that the geriatric p*rn-star somehow gets to, and he walks Rolen on 4 pitches (who hasn't had a hit in 3 years).

The NL blows... if it wasn't for Weaver completely missing his location on that pitch to Beltran, the Mets would have been getting shut out by a mediocre right-hander, who was garbage throughout the season (and who nobody wanted).

But, I guess that's why he's mediocre... to miss his location by that much, after cruising all game is a sign of a guy who's luck ran out.

You catch the differing views on Game 1?

"I feel like I'm pitching as well as I have at any point during the year." - Tom Glavine (7 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2K)

"He wasn't good. He wasn't good at all." - Albert Pujols (0-3, K, BB) on Tom Glavine

This is easy for me. I hate all NY sports teams, and especially the Mets for what they did to my beloved Red Sox in '86. The Cardinals are my favorite NL team. With that being said, whoever wins this series will get annihilated by the AL team (most likely being Detroit).

I don't think it is gonna matter. The Tigers are going to flatten either the Mets in the World Series. Detroit reminds me sooooo much of the White Sox last year, but even better. Tigers over Mets in 5 or 6.

I never understood how wagner has been doing so well for so long. At some point, people just have to start hitting that fastball. It just seems like such an unsustainable pitch to rely on in crunch time. His slider is ok but what made Lidge better (2 years ago) was that he had that dominant slider to rely on.

Looks like Wagner is getting a Lidge-esque meltdown. Now to see if his career is ruined permanently.

Beltran had a chance to bust this one open....and he hits into a DP.

Now the Cards are breaking this one open. LOL. Man the NL sucks.

Wagner getting lite up. 3 runs already.

i knew this crap would happen. you guys all thought the cards getting swept in the first round was a given. ANYTHING can happen once you get into the tourney. i'm gonna be sick. i want to be put into a coma and only woken up if the cards do not win the world series.

I really hate to watch these games. I really haven't watched much baseball since the stros were knocked out.

DAMN YOU BRAVES! Seriously. It's making me want to puke. We were so hot to close out the season...only to let this slumping team in. Damnit. What could have been....if they only played decent earlier than the last 2 weeks. :(

It feels weird rooting for the Cards, but I hate the arrogant Mets so much. Its like afetr all the battles we've had with the Cards over the last 2 yrs, I kind of would rather see St.L win, I hate the Cards but I have more respect for them then the Mets.

I'd take 04 NLCS Lidge at the top of his game, than Billy Wagner at the top of his game. Lidge has a nastier slider and a less flat fastball, slower, but more lively.

We'll see if Lidge benefits from actually getting an off-season for the first time in 3 years. His mechanics have gotten so screwed up with the multitudes of outings that have just compounded on each other over the years... and it all started to fall apart at the end of 05, where he was getting by basically on sheer will (as he blew a save to the Cubs, and then teetered on the brink in every game till the Pujols one).

He'll actually get a chance to get away from the game, and he's still young enough to have plenty of life left in the arm. Plus, the improvements he made towards the end of the season were real, and definitely a step in the right direction.
