Gerry Hunsicker needs to be owner, general manager, manager, hitting coach, pitching coach, trainer, 1st base coach, 3rd base coach, and bullpen catcher.
I would enjoy seeing Jose Cruz manage the Astros. I was all for the Astros hiring Tony Pena when Dierker was let go. I think Cruz is the answer.
yeah, he had no choice the lack of a 4th quality starter was the biggest downfall of this team in this series IMO
Priorities! Carlos Beltran, Andy Pettitte, Wade Miller...and maybe Clements (if he wants to come back). Good run Stros! Lets go back next year!
Clemens losing Game 7 in the NLCS. I just don't see him retiring. he's gonna come back next year with Pettitte and lead us back into October
Man, please........with the expectations this freaking team had in spring training, the freaking team actually underachieved until the last month of the regular season. I guess Petite injury get's blame here, but we'll never know, but I doubt it. I'm glad they got as far as they did, but as far as Houston sports goes, the Astros and Oilers (Can't judge Texans yet), have had great teams and great regular seasons, but just couldn't get it done in the end, I'm not talking about winning the whole she-bang, but I think the fans would be satisfied with at least an appearance.
More special than the Astros getting their butts kicked and bats silenced by a team they beat 10 out of 18 times in the regular season? By a pitcher (Suppan) they basically owned? Sheeeeettt....they made Tavares and Isringhausen look like Eckersley in his prime. Weak. I'm only a casual baseball fan but that's all there is...it won't get any better....that was the best shot they've had. Biggio, Bagwell, and Clemens are one step from retirement and Beltran will be playing somewhere else after the FA frenzy. A first class choke. And don't even get me started on Miceli...he couldn't be effective for the RR Express. He'd probably get cut.
My Dad gave up a couple of years ago with winning the World Series. He now just hopes to ever see the Astros in the World Series. Maybe next year.
I understand the frustration, but in baseball more than ANY other sport, NO ONE can be expected to go to the world series let alone win it. Some of the best teams on paper have had the worst season. They didn't win it and I am very dissapointed, but if you told me in the beginning of the season that we'd be in game 7 of the NLCS, I'd say we had a good season.
Call me a pessimist but this team is on its way down and I'll list the reasons why. 1. Biggio is done. His defense and lack of range costs too many runs and as an outfielder his offense is average at best and come playoff time one of the worst chokers in the history of baseball. 2. Beltran will not resign. He want's to play for New York and nothing is going to keep that from happening. 3. Bagwell is done. His defensive skills have eroded these last couple of years and he already subpar offensively for a 1st baseman. 4. Berkman had a good year, but what happened to the guy that was a lock for a run at the batting title every year? He will be our best hitter for years, but a heck of alot of teams have guys hitting .290-300 with 35 homers in the 3 or 4 slot. 5. Kent is gone and as much as you want to believe otherwise Burke is a downgrade offensively and Biggio a downgrade both offensively and defensively and don't even get started about postseason performance. 6. Ensberg is a mediocre 3rd baseman at best and Lamb is one of the worst fielders I've ever seen at 3rd. Lamb need to DH. Too bad this isn't the AL. 7. Everett is a very good fielder, but offensively this a guy that will never be a good hitter. He is a career number 8 hitter. His numbers were inflated by getting so many pitches to hit at the top of the order, but at that spot he underperforms. 8. Ausmus used to be a good defensive catcher, but age has caught of with him and although he had a couple of good offensive seasons in Detroit this guy is a horrible horrible hitter and rallly killer extraordinaire. 9. Clemens will be a year older and even if comes back (big if) his fastball will be again be a tad slower. I felt all season that Clemens overperformed and if he plays again next season we will be looking at an era in the 3.5-4.0 range. The way Oswalt got hit this season and his injuries are a concern. Will this guy be the number 1 we are expecting next season or does his small frame finally do him in? Pettite is a huge question mark coming off a major injury and even then do you really believe he is a front line starter? I don't. Miller if he's here is another huge question mark. Again a guy that no longer is a frontline starter. Backe is the only brightspot in the starting rotation, but was that a fluke? Who knows. Hernandez needs to retire. His arm is done. Duckworth, Redding, Munro? Please. The bullpen. It couldn't get worse or can it? Lidge the only bright spot, but was he overworked this season? Honestly guys I can't be optimistic about this team for next season. They made a miraculous run, but I think that St. Louis and Chicago will both run away with the division next season.
I agree .. With the support of his family, which it appears he has, he will be back next year. Out of Kent and Biggio, only one can be back next year at most. I think I would like to get Biggio back at 2nd base, and get to having a more defensive outfield. Everett will be a huge help in the middle as well, and I think he is going to have a breakout offensive year. If somehow we can get Beltran to come back, or at least pick up a servicable player for that outfield, and we can have a rotation of Oswalt, Clemens, Pettitte, Miller, and Backe ... then I think we will be back in the thick of things, which is all I can ask for.
Clemens was never supposed to carry this pitching staff and that is what he did this year. I would glady take Clemens even at 43 as a 4th or 5th starter.
Yeah, anytime a wild card team loses to the best team in baseball in 7 games, they're just a bunch of chokers.
why are you doing this now...there's a time and place to start complaining about the team and where we are and why we're gonna suck and it isn't now. We just got done making a miraculous run with 2/5 of our starting pitching rotation and one of them is 42. geez talk about taking things for granted and not living in the moment. i don't give a **** about next year...at least not tonight
Technically this would be a civil suit for $$. However, Im sure the DA could get him for consumer fraud. In Texas, DTPA - Deceptive Trade Practices will get you 3 x damages.
A hell of a game for both teams. I'm sad that the Astros lost....ah, f**k it. I'm PISSED that we lost, but we lost to a good team. It sucks to say it, but as I read from all the posts in this thread, that damn bullpen....but I single out Miceli. That b*stard cost us Game 6. Terrible pitching and Garner's decision to put him in was a costly one. I hope the Astros waive him, pay him his dues, and use it toward the Save Beltran fund. Well, moving on to the Rockets this week.....
