thats about what I expected from munro. he is what our 7th or 8th pitcher when healthy... with AP, wade etc... still a bummer though
Someone was gonna have to win...one of these bullpens was gonna have to break..and it just happened to be ours...what other options did Garner have? He used Qualls and Harville who redeemed themselves...Wheeler and Lidge pitched shutout ball...who down there did we have left? And Oswalt is not an option. I thought maybe Micelie could served up some redemption too (but deep down I had a bad feeling) Does that mean I wanna see Miceli again in an Astros uniform...probably not...but don't go blaming the manager for giving up a blast to Edmonds. Geez...there's such negativity here...we lost a game I think most people predicted we'd lose...we were behind from the very beginning and we battled back...a heartbreaker to be sure...but you gotta be a little optmistic going into tomorrow w/ the ONE pitcher you'd wanna send to the mound going on full rest.
Hey, I'm not saying we're gonna lose. I'm just saying... history is not on our side, simple as that. I doubt the 3 losing teams mentioned had a 6/7-time Cy Young winner starting Game 7 for them. As you put it, the Astros have had a way of bucking history this year. I sincerely hope that trend continues. Besides, the Astros HAVE to win tomorrow. It's my birthday.
Really didn't think Lidge should have been used for more than 1 inning, given that our hitting looked dicey. I mean, we maneuvered so that we'd have the best chance of winning tomorrow...then went for broke when the game was in doubt, and got burned. I think that when Garner decided not to pitch Clemens, Lidge should have gone off the table in a tie game. Lane also prematurely replaced Berkman. Garners substitutions, once again, were awful.
Who did not have a bad feeling about Dan Imbecelli? This is not 20/20 revisionist history. How many blown games can you have before you realize someone just can't pitch in the clutch. The Pujols walk was a foregone conclusion. Even if we wouldve scored in the top of the inning we wouldve still lost. Russ Springer wouldve been a better chpice by far. Phil Garner made the absolute worst decision and everyone knew it. When 99.9% of the people are sceaming "NO!!!!" before you make the move, that's a bad sign.
As much as iI wanted to win tonight... this is the perfect story.. Roger on the mound.. to send his hometown team to the world series..
Well let's hope the Astros can give you a nice present! But like I said...history has been against us all year...and we've come thru...it seems like the only way for this Astros team to win is when our back are against the wall...so how could u have it any other way with a game 7, winner take all!
AMEN TO THAT **** HISTORY, if history was ever true, there wouldn't be a game in the bronx right now and we wouldn't be still playing baseball. tonight really hurts just because we were so close to winning...i seriously thought when berkman came up we would pull through, just seemed fitting, but alas we'll play a game 7 with our pocket rockets and lidge to back them up...like codell said, if they can beat us with clemens, roy-o and lidge pitching, then hats off, they're the better team by the way, anybody else just knew from the getgo that when micelli was starting the bottom of the 12th, the game was over??
Well, I agree. BUT... I will say that Harville and Qualls did pitch well tonight, and most of us never wanted to see THEM pitch again a few days ago. Miceli = REDEMPTION DENIED.
i rather of had this game been a blow out or been over in the 9th, it just hurts that we were so close. i just hope the players don't let this one linger and we take care of business tomorrow. i still believe
Couldn't have said it better myself. Somebody needs to bump this post up for each new thread page.... the amount of crazy-talk in here is reaching Rockets game-thread preportions. (which is about right, since most people here right now don't watch baseball throughout the year.) Garner made all the moves he could... the bats didn't come alive for him throughout the game, and suddenly there was nobody left in the cupboard to throw out there. (even though Miceli was somewhat dependable during the year... but I guess none of that matters anymore in the playoffs... unless you redeem yourself like Qualls and Harville did today.)
It didn't linger for them after game 2 against Atlanta (furcal's walkoff)... it didn't linger for them after game 4 against Atlanta (Drew's rbi single)... and it didn't linger for them after game 2 in St. Louis (Pujols-Rolen in the 8th). Also, it didn't linger for St. Louis after monday's game... but we'll leave that out of the equation.
I dunno..with the point in the game it had gotten to...I would've felt uneasy about ANYBODY he threw out there. And Springer wouldn't be any better than Miceli... Before tonight: Miceli, 0-2, 8.31ERA, 4.1IP, 4ER Springer, 0-1, 18.00ERA, 2IP, 4ER Any way you look at it...with Lidge coming out our chances of winning faded dramatically.
Harville and Qualls are young but aren't afraid. You can tell Dan Imbecelli was just scared. Pujols didnt even take the bat off his shoulders. Qualls had a lot of bad luck in that game. Russ Springer does suck and he's a loser but not as much of a loser as Imbecelli. Wheeler doesnt have good stuff but is tough. And once again, this is not revisionist history. It took Garner awhile to figure this out.
but you gotta admit that this is a lot different than the other scenarios... this is game 7 of the lcs, not just the division series...one game away from the series... the key to tomorrows game other than the obvious ones: biggio has got to contribute. 0-6 is terrible, its horrendous as a leadoff hitter and supposed table setter. just the at-bats themself looked really bad as biggio was trying to pull everything. i hope garner sticks with lamb and like i said, i think biggio is the x-factor of this game.
I disagree. Miceli, Springer and Gallo all suck equally. we were going to lose in the bottom of the 12th no matter who came in.
I turned off the radio when I they were bringing "the Missile" to pitch to Pujols & Co. I knew he was going to blow it. And sure 'nuff.
