I'd consider the Wii until the PS3 goes for much, much less. I'm in no rush for Blu-Ray.. although I believe it will be the format that wins.

I finally played my bro-in-law's Wii and saw his downloaded old school NES, SNES, and Sega games... and the Sports games are addictive...

Too cool. And for what it's worth, the last time I owned any Nintendo unit was the first NES... I never looked back after the Genesis came out, then the PS... but, I'd get a Wii... maybe by this summer.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking..."833 people bought an X-Box?? Why are they even tracking that?"

I'm guessing that X-Boxes are late christmas presents, or birthday presents for kids born in January. 833 kids told their moms that they want an X-Box 360. The mom didn't hear the 360 part, or she forgot on the way to the store, and of course some middle aged woman doesn't know an X-Box from a cardboard box. She goes to the toy store and tells the guy that her son wants "the X-Box something or other" The guy at the store knows that she's probably there for an X-Box 360, but he's got one X-Box sitting in the back that hasn't been sold yet, so he pulls a fast one on her.

Lady: Now, this is the new one, right?
Salesman: Uhh....Y-Yes ma'am! This is that brand new X-Box that everybody is talking about!
Lady: OK, I'll take your word for it

NPD tracks pretty much everything. I recall seeing numbers for the PS1 and even the SNES and NES in previous reports during the last 2 years or so, as well as sales for games like FF7.

They charge a lot of money for these reports, so I'd kind of expect them to track everything.

LMAO, did you photo shop that yourself? I was trying to put the real one with the trading up to a DS, but for whatever reason, I couldn't get the pic to upload to a hosting site.

Did I ever mention how much I dislike the PR guys at SCEA?

I love the comments about PS3 supply being a problem (maybe for the 20GB SKU?), and the PSP "closing the gap" on the DS. Apparently you can close the gap even with the gap widening at the same time.

I guess the one positive for the PS3, as pointed out in the article, is that the tie ratio has improved quite a bit. Considering that nothing came out for the PS3 in January (except Sonic PS3...so yeah, nothing), and that not many of the games are any good except for Resistance, that's pretty nice I guess. I think I saw something about a 2:1 ratio for January (same for the Wii actually). Much better than the <1 ratio they had going on previously. Still a long way to go to match the impressive tie-ratio accomplished by the 360 (both now and from a year ago).

Oh and here are the official NPD numbers, courtesy of NeoGAF:

Maybe they'll buy that wii cooking game. There could be a wii gardening game or a wii ranching game like Harvest Moon. Word of mouth will probably make an Animal Crossing for Wii a large hit. The stuff they have now for the Miis can be expanded with that game.

I'm talking out of my butt since I don't know what these non-gamers want, but who knew Nintendogs or Brain Training would be huge successes on the DS?

If these non-gamers like quirky games that makes controlling fun and simple, then Nintendo has the creativity to generate enormous piles of cash from these people.
