Your friend is full of ****.
    :D

Seriously, Astro is right. It's not just a few people here on Clutchfans. Huge ratings, and across just about every gaming board there is high, high praise. As someone who beat it, I say it's well deserved.

In fact, the very thing your friend is trying to say is what most people have praised; the fact that it isn't just a rehash and repetitive. It's actually brought something fresh to a title that's been around for decades.

I'm giving it to my two kids (12 & 16) for Christmas. So you think they'll like it? ;)

(I'm sure I'll be playing it!)

I got 60 stars tonight and beat the game...I'm not done yet, I want to get all 120. some levels are getting to be pretty difficult (good thing). the more I play it, the more I love it. some of the levels are not only outstanding graphically / artistically...but technically, and geographically.

their coders have done incredible things with the physics / gravity within the game. the level design is absolutely phenomenal, and at times I just wonder what the hell they had to be thinking to come up with it.

as for people claiming the game is repetitive...uh if they said that they're stupid.
every level is something different. every...single...one.

definitely one of the top 5 games of all time...right up there with ocarina of time...and I've played a LOT of games.

I think by repetitive, they meant that the levels were similar to Mario games of years past. Regardless, I think they are way off.

Anyone that would complain about this game being repetitive probably just doesn't like platformers in general.

I have yet to see any repetition. the levels I've seen that were even remotely similar to 64 were simply nostalgic...they were still entirely different levels.

I suggest you show your friend that and ask him who it is that really doesn't "know games?" Him, or everybody else and their momma? The game is rated higher than any game in the last freakin decade, and only 0.1% behind the almighty Ocarina of Time for number 1 of all time! How can that game possibly be bad? It just can't.

And calling Mario Galaxy repetitive? It makes me think that he just saw that he needs to get 60-120 stars, and that's all the game has. I don't think he has any clue on how different each star really is.

He seems hardcore in the sense that he has to play shooters to feel cool and Mario might make him feel a little insecure about himself. ;)

yeah, i was thinking the same thing...until i got to around 15 stars. There are things in that game that no one has done before in terms of gaming. Sorry, but your "friends" seem to be slow on the uptake or serious console whores.

you know who else are "hardcore" gamers? (which btw, is the most trite and r****ded word) The professionals who get paid to give their opinions and have routinely called Galaxy an amazing game.

funny how those who claim to be "hardcore" gamers are typically the FPS guys.

But the friend did have one thing right, it is repetitive...you get a star after you beat each level  thats about where it ends.

I'm on 73 stars and just finished the toy planet...freaking awesome!

I know i could beat the game, and its tempting but I'm going to wait and beat it when i have all the stars

I rented this for my son to play to see if he could handle it (he's 7). he liked it okay, but my cousin and I ended up trying it out on Thanksgiving. Needless to say 4-5 hours later we were really into it and my son was just sitting there playing on controller 2. The game was great even though I was not really that excited about it. We got about 35 stars before we returned it.

Oh and my son did get to play it the next day and he will be getting it for Christmas

The toytime galaxy is my favorite!

Spring Mario is like  ! Espically the way he animates. It's amazing!

But I couldn't wait to beat the game. I did it once I got 60 stars. In fact you have to do it again once you get 120 as well. So if you want, you could go beat the game and continue playing and beat it again at 120 stars. Oh, and there is a really really cool surprise after you get 120 stars!

Are all the supplemental levels purple coin challenges?

Yup, you have the purple coin challenges remaining. Don't worry though, they are not tedious like some of Mario 64's 100 coin challenges.

They are very cleverly designed, but be prepared to try over and over again for some of them, because some of them are downright hard!

Would someone who's not a hardcore gamer enjoy this game?

I imagine that 95% of anybody who's ever played a video game at all would enjoy this game, "hardcore" or not.

Myself, I'm a former hardcore gamer turned casual gamer. It's hard for me to justify making time for games anymore, and when I do I usually grow bored quickly. With Galaxy that's not the case at all. I'm at 88 stars and still struggle to put the controller down.

In his defense, he hates mario 64, all Zeldas & movies such as godfather (1-3), Apocalypse Now and the list goes on. So at least he's consistant with his biased opinion. So now, Im forced to buy this game. NUTS!!! Im already hooked on COD4 (online), Rachet & Clank and my 2k8 online leagues :(
I dont want mario to over take them! Damn you mario, why do you always have to leave me and come back into my life like this.

That's the same as me. Use to be "hardcore"...whatever the hell that means...but i spent countless hours playing games.

Guess im getting old but 1) i dont seem to have the time at home...unless I want to be a couch potato and 2) adult ADD must be kicking in because I have a hard time sitting in front of a game for very long anymore...well its not as easy as it was for me in my pothead days.

But mario did make it hard for me to quit playing.

    Because you're a law dog.

By the way, I'm at 93 stars and I think I'll possibly be done by the weekend. You could just borrow it, or maybe buy it if the price is right.
