I was super excited for Sunshine but it just fell flat for me. I felt like the controls were clunky (even though they were supposed to be similar to 64), the levels uninspired and repetitive, and overall just a blah feeling when I played the game... Moreover, I hated that the game was centered around water levels. They are a nice change of pace in a regular Mario game...but don't make the whole game a damn water level, yeesh. At least there appears to be variety in the new one...
i agree. I don't know what people expected. it wasnt revolutionary by any means, but it was a fun game!
yes. How could you not have been blown away by mario 64!? I remember seeing the demo at JC pennies, or something, and was amazed. 3 freaking D! changed my life forever
how can you say that? at the time that game was easily the most significant leap in console games to that point. I could STILL play that game and enjoy it. not only for nostalgia, but because it's freaking awesome.
The problem I had with Sunshine is that it seemed too similar...not enough variety, no real sense of change between levels. It seemed like one big game in the same environment, with subtle differences. In addition the camera was really poorly done and I seemed to be fighting it more than I should in a Mario game. Also it seemed padded with useless time wasting stuff...I mean most adventure games have you collecting and searching out items, but it just seemed more a chore in Sunshine. Anyway, just picked up Galaxy. Going to try it out...
I know what you're saying about Sunshine. I thought it was a decent game, but share a lot of your views on it. But Galaxy is a whole different story. It is the true sequel to Mario 64. You won't be dissapointed with this one.
So yeah, this is pretty damn impressive. Already puts Sunshine to shame (IMO). Very nice mix on the stages, lots of different stuff to do and unlock and the best part - the controls are outstanding. This was a concern of mine. One of the 'side quests' was a little wonky, but everything else I've done in this game is as dead on with the controls as they should be. Level design is unlike anything I've played. When you are playing you are all over the place - something that was a wall or the floor (or under the floor) is suddenly your ceiling. Yet it is never disorienting or broken. Seamless. The reviews were right when it said it did a lot of stuff new while holding on to a lot of classic Mario feel. Music, characters you recognize - the game is full of so many nice touches it makes you feel a nice wave of nostalgia while, at the same time, you are doing something completely new.
One of my concerns was that it could get a bit disoriented. Good to hear that its not the case. Regardless, some of the clips just looks completely insane! I'm stoked to get it.
Agreed. I've only got 5 stars so far, and it's been a blast! The level design in the game is just amazing. I can't wait to see what some of the later stages look like. It takes 60 stars to beat the game but you can get 120 like you could in Mario 64. Most reviews say that the game is fairly easy to beat, but the difficulty significantly ramps up in the later half of the game when trying to collect 120. It should be fun!
Looks like I'll be trading in Twilight Princess and MP:Corruption to pick up Galaxy. I haven't played the Wii in forever, except to try and give Metroid another chance (again and again). Just never got pulled into it.
excellent game so far play 40 mins a day have 4 stars ClutchcityReturns how much wouldd you sell me the metroid prime game??
Temptation got the better of me and I picked up Galaxy today. Haven't had time to play it yet, but I'm sure I will be able to squeeze in a few hours tonight. True to rumors, it has the starred phrase 'U R MR GAY' Anyone know if this is intentional? It could be a cooincidence, but I doubt it.
Don't know if you guys heard about this deal I picked up Mario Galaxy from Toys R Us here in Austin. There is a promotion for a $25 gift card to Toys R Us with the purchase or the game. You have to make sure to get them right when they get them, because they have only a few to sell if you have not preordered with them beforehand.
