Here are some videos that showcase the photo center capabilities, including a seemingly basic (yet useful) editing interface. I think the second video is especially impressive.

    http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/topics/wii_preview/presentation/07.html

That link takes you to page 7 of 14. They're all chock full of Wii stuff, so just poke around a bit on all 14 and you can find some cool stuff.

Personally I'm a bit upset about the price, since I posted about that 229 rumor earlier today (with 2 controllers). The interface stuff does look pretty nice though, so that helps.

Also, I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but extra "wii-motes" are said to be $40 and nunchuck attachments are another $20....so, $60 for each "complete" extra controller. Definitely can't say I'm happy about that.

So it's one controller and the sports pack for $250.00? The two controller thing is out the window right??

Well, sort of good news and bad news. Bad news that the full extra remote will be $60, semi-bad news that the price of the system will be $250, but good news that they claim they won't have any availability issues and that there should be 25 games available at launch.

And the prices of the virtual console games is a little higher than I would have liked, but really isn't too very bad.

    What a gip.

Close to current gen hardware(old but it's the biggest obstacle to overcome, and it's not doing a good job of it).

A packed in game that likely few would have picked up with the launch titles that should be available.

    Ridiculous VC pricing.

Expected the expensive remote, but still not good.

I'm not really surprised, was just hoping for more. Nice launch lineup, but eh. Not convinced the system will get much more support than the last 2 consoles. Skeptical of their online experience, esp after how they handled the GC.

    color me unimpressed.

i guess it comes out to $199 for the system and $50 for wii sports....Anybody know how good wii sports is supposed to be or is it more of a training getting used to the controller type game?

One thing that still remains unclear is whether or not the VC games will be playable online. I'm still holding out hope that I can play me some online Tecmo Super Bowl.

Not sure if you've seen this since posting, but the Wii has 512MB of flash storage built-in. Along with that, I believe you can either use an SD card or some sort of USB storage device (I think USB HDD's were mentioned).

*Edit: Scratch that. Apparently just flash storage for now (which includes SD cards BTW). No USB HDDs.*

Same here, but I'm hopeful that maybe they can put in some price cuts earlier than expected...or make a $250 Bundle with Mario Galaxy when it comes out (maybe even still including Wii Sports depending on its quality).

BTW, some stuff from the US event via Joystiq:

I'm okay with the VC games pricing since that's what XBLA games cost. I'm slightly disappointed with console and really disappointed with not-included extra controller.

Already owning a 360, these games and new controller functions are going to have to be very impressive for me to fork over the $250 + $60 (+1Controller)+$50(1 game)=$360

I own a 360 too but I'm still definitely buying a Wii. If I would have to choose out of the three, it would still be the Wii. I'm in love my wy Nintendo DS. I think Wii will be a homerun just like that one.
This video makes me feel better about today's announcement. Those games look too cool.

This forum loves Nintendo man... Oddly it seems like the older crowd supports it the most. Weird. Cool. But weird...

it makes logical sense. The NES (original nintendo) crowd has now grown up and the majority have entered the work force. Add a bit of nostalgia, coupled with disposable income and nintendo will sell gazillions of these....

Out of curiosity, what is the price for an extra XBox 360 controller? Any info on the price of PS3 controllers? I'm just wondering how much more Nintendo is charging for the new tech.

What can I say, most of the people that i know around my age (mid 20's) miss the days where gameplay was simple yet fun. Too much of today's game focuses on graphics and things, which end up with products that are just mediocre when it comes to fun. Part of the problem is that with games getting mroe complex, there are just too many problems that hinders a game like poor responsive controls, camera angles, and repeatition. There are still recent non-nintendo games out there that are done right (World of Warcraft, Counterstrike, Resident Evil Series, God of War, Knights of the Old Republic, GTA, Castlevania series and etc), but too many times people try to do too much and end up having little flaws through out the games that make it hard to enjoy them.

Even looking at Gamecube's games by Nintendo, games like Zelda, Metroid, Mario Party/Tennis/Kart etc. Games are simple, but fun. It's easy to pickup, hard to master, and incredibly addicting. That's also why DS is kicking PSP's butt. That's also why Nintendo's system will always be the first system I buy ever generation.

This looks leaps and bounds beyond anything they ever did with Gamecube, including apparent support.

    Wireless 360 controllers are 50 or 60.

Agreed, but we'll have to actually wait and see how the follow through is.

    some cool news :

First-party games for Wii will be region-free, according to NoA's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan.

Speaking to Wired News' Joel Johnson, Kaplan confirmed that, like the DS, Wii gamers will be able to play titles from different territories without restriction. Traditionally, games purchased in regions such as Japan, US and Europe have only been playable on native home consoles. The news is likely to be welcomed by import fans, eager to get their hands on games as close to initial release as possible - however, Kaplan also suggested that region-locking on third-party games would be left up to individual publishers. Currently, it's unclear how Nintendo's region-free policy will affect the playback of existing GameCube titles, which are fully compatible with the Wii.

some not so big deal news, but slightly annoying:

    - Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies. The decision to remove the functionality was made in order to deliver the machine at a cheaper cost and because most people today already own DVD players.

Dislike how they pushed back the GC zelda again, but disliked how they've handled the whole zelda TP thing to begin with, so whatever.

That didn't seem to help the GC much though.

Not saying that the same will happen with the Wii of course. I think the controller combined with these simple yet fun games will make for a bigger impact (though I guess the controller could make things more complicated in some cases, but that would be a big screw up by the developer).

3rd party support might make the difference too (way more great games that are easy to play), although I'm hoping it will turn out better than the DS (great selling system that is easy to get into, but Nintendo dominates the sale-charts, making it difficult for 3rd parties to make big sales on the system).

I guess that is part of the deal, especially since handheld games usually need to be simpler and easier to get into than console games. I'd probably put more significance on the price difference, and the fact that the DS's library is quite a bit better though. There are probably a number of factors as to why the DS is outselling the PSP, and not just one IMO (as with any console war I guess).

I've actually taken my psp out of the paperweight retirement home and started to play it nowadays.....

Yea the game library may be scarce, but again this thing has a lot of potential. It's only been out for almost a year. Next year should really set the tone as far as the game library, ect...

I have a DS lite also, great system/great games, but the build/material quality sucks compared to the psp. Feels like you can bend it in half. I had to get a warranty replacement unit via nintendo because it started to shut off whenver if felt like it...
