And what about GC games that use the analog and the C stick...well I guess the controller's internal sensors will make up for that...but still for the 64 and GC games it'll take a lot of getting used to since the control scheme will be different.
Whoever is in the know, please post a video demonstration as soon as possible. It sounds cool, especially when reading the IGN article, but I still really have no idea how it works.
wow, that is the funniest looking thing i have ever seen honestly, i was thinking about the scene in 40 Year Old Virgin with the controller on each end of the arm rest of his chair.
At first look i thought it wasnt gonna be good but after watching the demo i am excited. Shooting games and sports games will be more interactive with this style of controller, actually turn and shoot or swing the bat. With the analog stick (which better be standard) and its extra buttons im curious as to how many things you be able to control at once. Racing games should be great with this as well.
its too bad they wont have any good 3rd party games i gave my nephew my GC and got an x-box last year
if you read, ea sports seemed very interested and it could be just a matter of time before more 3rd parties sign up
wow now THAT was a bit underwhelming. it's like Powell motors introducing Homer's car.... my idea for their control is cooler than this
Hmmm..I hadn't seen that Sony controller yet. It actually very similar layout wise to the old dualshock, just a little more futuristic looking... ...anybody remember the U-Force? It might have been good for a few things, but video game controller sure as hell wasn't one of them...
wow, um... I just can't picture my self trying to play any sports game, a fighting game or any game that requires the constant use of all buttons being pressed. On the controller that looks like a TV remote, the buttons seem far apart for your thumb to be moving around constantly, like from a to b and c. I guess it would take time to get used to.
It's the controller Sony showed at E3, along with the PS3. Barring something drastic (which could happen given the response to the controller), that will be the controller for the PS3. After letting it sink in some, I'm still mixed about the controller. There's no doubt about it; this controller allows for an entirely different way of playing games. The video seemed to show that, even though it was a little amusing (like to see people keep up those movements for 15-30 minutes, let alone a few hours). I believe I read that you can either use the old GC controllers, or buy a "gamepad" attachment; as long as you can do that, multi-platform games shouldn't be too much of a problem (although developers will have to assume that Revolution owners will be able to get either one of those). I'll have to see some more on the controller, but it could be pretty cool. I just hope there won't be like 50 attachments, and you would end up buying a bunch of those just to play a FPS, a RTS, a platformer, etc. Affordability kind of goes out the window in that case. Oh well. Even though I'll have to take a wait and see attitude with the controller, at least the MGS4 trailer was as awesome (or more so) than I expected it to be. Can't wait to see what TGS will have for us tomorrow.
Revolution Controller Demo Video September 15, 2005 - The trailer you'll find in the media gallery was the official public unveiling of the Revolution controller. Aired before hundreds of Japanese and international press, it teases viewers with the possibilities of a whole new way to play games. It suggest you can use the Revolution controller as a golf club, a baseball bat, a dentist's drill, a fly swatter, and even a sword; this video even shows how two controllers might be used at once as drumsticks. There are many possibilities, and it seems Nintendo is intent on exploring a whole new frontier. Watch the teaser for a free peek into the minds at Nintendo.
I gotta say I dropped a big WTF when I saw it... but after reading the article on 1Up about the Metroid Prime demo, I'm genuinely excited to try it... sounds better than a keyboard and mouse setup for FPS's... very fluid and natural to look around by turning the control about in various directions... I would love to see Nintendo save themselves... I just hope this doesn't turn into some "gimmick console," but I would hope Nintendo isn't silly enough to do that...
That is one innovative controller. That could really make or break Nintendo forever. I don't really see how you could play Madden or Live w/ that, or any game that requires a lot of bottons. It seems like that only has a couple buttons that are naturally fit to your hand.
Damn that looks crazy! cool video. I'd wanna have one around just to try it out. It looks so different.
the controller looks really weird but after reading the ign preview and watching the movie i'm totally into the idea. if nintendo makes this thing work flawlessly or atleast close than i think they may make a pretty big splash. i wouldn't buy it over a 360 or ps3 but i can see buying it additionaly for a different experience, which seems to be exactly what nintendo wants.
I'm skeptical, but intrigued by the possibilities. adeelsiddiqui, did you just look at the picture and pass judgement or did you bother to read about what the thing can do? The talk about how this will work with First Person Shooters is what's really materialized in my mind right now. I like this excerpt from the Wired article: "At E3, Nintendo announced that the next version of its popular first-person shooting series, Metroid Prime 3, would appear on the Revolution. That game isn't yet ready to show, but Nintendo had mocked up a level of the latest GameCube version, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, that used the Revolution controller. The analog-stick pod, which Miyamoto playfully referred to as the "nunchuck controller" due to its shape, was used to move around while the standard controller was used to point, aim, look in all directions and shoot. Within seconds, I was running down corridors and blasting enemies with pinpoint precision." http://wired.com/news/games/0,2101,68869,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_1 I've been thinking, Halo is X-Box's bread and butter, the game that comes to mind when you think of the system. Sony is dominating the console market, yet they have gone out of their way to try and excite people about their "Halo Killer" Killzone 2 (does anybody actually own Killzone 1?). After reading how people really took to the control in the Metroid FPS demonstration, I have to hope that Nintendo will put out a great FPS to jump into this fray even though they are going for a wider market overall with the system(I guess we know what system Velocity Girl will actually buy). God, I just hope this thing captures the imaginations of talented 3rd party developers.
