I can't seem to get into the handhelds. I did buy a GBA just to keep me entertained on plane rides, but even then I usually watch movies or read a book.

To each his own, I suppose.

For PS2 I'm playing the port of GTA:LCS, which I enjoy. I love all things GTA, so I was happy when they brought it over to PS2. I'm also working my way through God of War on God Mode. That game rules.

It's only a matter of time before I get a DS Lite...my friends are really pushing me to join 'em.

From what I've played, Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros (esp the mini games) and Bomberman all kick ass. And Trauma Center, Brain Age and Wario Ware are pretty cool. I wasn't too thrilled with Metroid Prime Hunters because the download times were insane for multiplayer and using the stylus felt a little cramped and weird (though I did like the fact that you could aim WHILE moving, unlike Prime). Just so many fun addictive games; and most of 'em are great with a group of friends.

Slight tangent, but is it me or have mario games progressively gotten easier as the years have gone by. I thought this one was way way too easy. I started playing the NES ones again and I find those to be much harder and challenging. Super mario world for SNES was also good but after that its just gone down.

I think all NES era games are more challenging for the most part. But then again, game design has come a long way. Poor jump mechanics, cheap deaths, small margin for error...those were the way to prolong play time back in those days.

I don't really care whether you liked the PSP or not. Everyone has their opinion (someone in this thread thinks the PSP is the best handheld ever). I just think some of the reasoning might be a little off. If you don't like the games, that's fine. I'd hope that you played some of the games I listed instead of just something like NBA Live 06 though.

FWIW, as I've said before, the DS lineup is a lot better than the PSP lineup IMO. I just think that you can have a ton of fun with either handheld (assuming you're not narrow-minded).

I don't deny that there are a lot of folks disappointed with the PSP (just like there are/were a lot of folks disappointed with pretty much any system). I just don't like it when people pay $50 for a crappy game and come to the conclusion that the entire lineup for that system is crappy. If they were willing to give Tetris, Advance Wars, WarioWare, Trauma Center, Brain Training, Phoenix Wright, etc. (games that aren't really in the "popular" genres), a try, then they'd probably enjoy games like Lumines, Field Commander, Mercury, LocoRoco, Gripshift, the Megaman games, etc. Maybe not, but all I hear is how much Madden 06 sucked or something like that.

In any case, this isn't going to matter much anymore. I already listed several games that are coming out soon that should strengthen the lineup (MGPO, KZ, Lumines 2, LocoRoco, Jean D' Arc, Mercury 2, Ratchet & Clank, SHO, etc.)... that, or my list of good PSP games to be ignored will grow substantially in the following months (like how VP and Tekken are being ignored).

:) back when i was a young lad, i had to walk 5 miles to school through the snow barefoot and a coke costs 5 cents

ok im kidding, but yeah...games are getting a bit complex, and mainstream now-a-days which isnt all a bad thing. but back then they didnt give a hoot if you could beat the game or not. and it was a good thing, now a game will get a bad score for being too hard. i know devil may cry 3's main complain was "too hard"

I can see that...I can't remember Mario 64 that much though and I refused to play Sunshine cause the little I played was total crap. I think all games in general have gotten easier (or I've played so much they seem easier :p )
But it's kind of like how Tomb Raider went from incredibly hard/damn near impossible to beat w/o a guide to relatively easy.

Though there are select games out there that still test your metal... Ninja Gaiden Black a good example. And Viewtiful Joe...I have yet to beat that.

Yeah. This is 3rd iteration of the series. The first one (Wario Ware) was just a bunch of weird, approx. 5-second long mini-games. They start out slow and start speeding up until you barely have a couple of seconds to do what you need to do. The games just pop up and at the beginning you have to guess what they're asking you to do. After a while you'll remember them all but the hard part will be quickly deciding which game you're playing because the mini-games come flying at you quickly towards the end. The 2nd one (WW Twisted) was the same except the cartridge had a gyro in it or something and could sense when you tilted it. And the mini-games, of course, took advantage of that. The latest one for the DS is WW Touched and takes advantage of the touch screen and the microphone. There are mini-games where you have to blow into the microphone to make a pinwheel spin, for example. Or use the touch screen to tickle some dude. Like I said, very weird but pretty fun. However, as RC said, the first two were better.

I didn't realize that the first one was in such demand. I have a copy lying around somewhere and no working PS2 to play it. I'll see if I can find it. I wonder if any of my other PS2 games are worth anything.

I have a dslite and haven't really found a game that I thought was really fun. For the most part I think the dual screen is useless for over 90% of the games and I wish they had a feature to disable it so I can conserve it for battery life instead. I dont find it fun playing the same iteration of the same game I played over 10 years ago with only minor tweaks. You can call me a Nintendo hater if you want, but Im sick of playing the same game over and over and over again.

Im suprised some people thought DMC3 was too hard, Capcom tweaked it to be easier for the American market. I wasn't impressed with dmc1 and didn't play dmc2, but dmc3 is a really good game.

Good choice in waiting, that's one of those games I find really hard to put down.
I hadn't ever really played a Castlevania game before and now I find I was really missing out! :D

I believe Syphon Filter Dark Mirror is exclusive to PSP. Oh, and it kicks major arse, too.

I agree the game selection is pretty lacking. I'll just give it more time. Definitely need some RPGs!!!

I think, in regards to the difficulty thing, that many games are leaning more towards leaving the heavy difficulty in the extras section of games. Usually it doesn't take much effort to complete a game, but if there are extras to be unlocked, etc, then it becomes difficult. I'm cool with that since it means even the crappy gamers can have some closure to games, but leaves difficult challenges in for the more skilled guys.

Yeah, it is PSP-only. I think there was a Syphon Filter game that came out on the PS2 a couple years ago, but it sucked much like most of the more recent Syphon Filter games (except for the PSP game). I guess it is good to see that franchise turn around...assuming the developers keep up the good work.

edit: Oh yeah, the PSP doesn't need more RPGs, it needs more good RPGs (or they just need to bring over all the good ones from Japan and Europe). There have been several mediocre RPGs on the PSP, including the Untold Legends franchise which is bringing its mediocre-ness to the PS3.

Yeah, none of the RPGs I've read about really stood out for PSP. I'd be pretty stoked if they could get Square Enix to cook something up for it.

I got my PSP for Christmas, and I only have 4 games. I bought Price of Persia with it and it was a little disapointing. Really sloppy port effort w/ some load-time issues (often loads at really bad times like when fighting an enemy or running a wall!) Also, a lot of the environments are too dark for a handheld game.

I then purchased X-Men Legends II which was highly addictive and fun...and an RPG! (I forgot about that one.)

Then I got GTA LCS. I've never been a fan of the GTA games. Can't really pinpoint why... just not really my type of game. So I kind of stopped playing shortly after I got to the second area of the city. What I was inpressed with about GTA was how they were able to get sunch an enormous environment packed into that little 1.8 gig UMD. I think it's the only game so far that comes close to taking up the full capacity of the disc.

A few weeks ago I got Syphon Filter. Amazing game. It took me a little while to adjust to the controls. I've never played any of the games in the series before, or any games with the same control scheme. I think you have to be innovative with only one analog stick. But I don't see how this game could not turn any PSP doubter into a bleiever.

Also, for those who aren't too keen on the game prices, I think I just found out PSP is coming out with greatest hits for $19.99.

I'm going to get Daxter pretty soon. Looks like a cool game.

I got all excited almost 2 years ago when Square-Enix announced that they would do a PSP RPG called FF7: Crisis Core (based on the Zach side-story from FF7). But that game has joined Devil May Cry Portable and Gran Turismo Portable in the vaporware collection. I'd just be happy if one of those games came out anytime soon. There was also a Nippon Ichi game (makers of Disgaea and other fun SRPGs), but they moved that game to the PS3. I think the Kingdom Hearts team sounded interested in doing a KH PSP game, but it sounds like they'll be too busy working on their PS3 game to get that cranked out anytime soon (assuming it even happens).

edit: And if I'm not mistaken, I think a Persona PSP game was announced, but the development team didn't even know that (the execs announced it, but I don't think the team wanted to do it or something).

Here's another PSP RPG I'm looking forward to, assuming it comes to the US:
