yeah my roomate just beat it, i havent seen him come out of his room in about 2 weeks. he said he had 90 hours on it after beating it.
why pay $40+ for tekken on psp when you can pay $19 and its much much better for the ps2? the best handheld EVER? no good RPG's, 50% of the library is racing and puzzle games that no one cares to play. there are about 5 good games for it, and those 5 games are already on the PS2, better and cheaper. "everything else you can do with it" doesnt make it the best gaming handheld, its not the best mp3 player (my ipod)? its not the best video player? (my laptop) i never used it to look at pictures...i bought it to play great games... and it was sufficient. thats all im saying
Already have it. Definitely a top quality game. My enjoyment of the RE series is partly what is prompting me to look into the SH series.
I don't believe that you can get that for the PS2. The Tekken on the PSP is based on the arcade game (with some additions) AFAIK, which was an improvement over the PS2 game. FWIW, there were some Tekken fans that were wishing for the game to be ported to the PS2...they wouldn't be asking for that if the PS2 version offered the better experience. Even if it was the same, it is portable. Remember when everyone was so excited because the PSP was a portable PS2? Now everyone acts like that is a bad thing. The whole point of the PSP was that it was a portable Playstation...and that's a good thing. Good RPGs aren't really available on any handheld at the moment (unless you live in Japan, in which case the PSP is the best handheld for RPGs ever). Still, there's VP and Tales of Eternia if your willing to import it from Europe. Then there are a bunch of average to below-average RPGs on the PSP. Curious to see what 5 games you think are good but are on the PS2. I can think of Lumines, LocoRoco, Tekken, Syphon Filter, Daxter, Exit, MGA 1+2, Mercury (probably the sequel too), Gripshift, the Megaman games, Virtua Tennis, VP, Field Commander, Gradius, and a couple of other games off the top of my head that are good games "exclusive" to the PSP (didn't even really mention the racing games either, except for maybe Gripshift which is like 4 genres). edit: Not sure about the non-gaming features about the PSP since I haven't been able to really take advantage of them, but the RSS feeds and the ability to stream media to the handheld is pretty cool (if only I could do that). Downloadable demos are great too.
actually i was, i had the 1.5 with emulators, dvd rip programs and online web browser. but there were only so many old nes and snes games you can play. internet browser is kinda of worthless. i had wipeout, nba live 06, and lumines...and it did keep me entertained for 2 or 3 months. the noveltly of the technology wears thin after awhile. at first youre just giddy that the screen is so nice, then you ask yourself, ok now what? maybe the ds will be the same way, but so far im pretty happy with it. its fresh and the games im playing ive never experienced before. its not a watered down version of tekken, madden, or grand theft auto. something ive played to death already.
actually i just got done with final fantasy IV, and i cant wait for the release of V, VI, and the remake of III all by the end of this year. a new zelda: hour glass is coming out soon as well.
I think only Madden would be watered down in that list. The PSP versions of GTA:LCS and Tekken were superior to the PS2 versions AFAIK. Sorry, I was mostly speaking about the DS and PSP (GBA has had enough time to get some decent RPGs, including the Golden Sun franchise which I like). I guess you can count the GBA games for the DS, but then you could probably count all the NES/Genesis/SNES/etc. games (including FF IV, V, and VI) for the PSP if you used homebrew. I know FFIII and Zelda are coming out (along with Pokemon IIRC), but then there are some decent RPGs coming out for the PSP too. I was referring to the RPG lineups as they stand now...which is mostly nonexistent if you live in the US. Criticizing the lineup for lack of RPGs isn't really saying much when both handhelds are lacking (IMO). As with other systems, they'll get a lot better as time goes on though.
any of you DS owners plan on buying the Web Browser that came out over in japan? play-asia website sells them, and even though the menus are in japanese, it gives full internet browser capabilities with wi-fi connection. there's also handwriting recognition for english and an english keypad. i've read reviews that load times are really long, but this is a really cool idea, i'm planning on getting one. also, the YouTube video of the DS w/ TV tuner cartridge makes me drool. i can't wait for that to come out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ogWgYF3r4M
On the Nintendo DS, New Super Mario is a must buy if you've been a longtime gamer. Anyone who grew up/appreciated old school 2D gameplay - particularly Mario gameplay - owes it to themselves to play it. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is outstanding, and continues the Symphony of the Night/ GBA Castlevania style that IMO is great. Tons of weapons and enemies, great boss fights. The next DS Castlevania, Portrait of Ruin, should be out this fall, I believe. It'll actually have Co-Op, possibily online co-op, so that should be fun. Mario Kart DS is also fun. It does have online multiplayer, regular multiplayer, a collection of tracks from every Mario Kart ever made along with brand new tracks and something like 20 racers I think. Trauma Center is an adventure game with...well, surgery. It sounds weird, and it is, but it is fun. Also pretty challenging. The touch screen is used for different procedures and activities with each patient; cutting/stitching, etc. Good stuff. Advance Wars: Dual Strike is an excellent, excellent strategy game. Multiple units including sea and air based, a good multiplayer and tons of 'commanders' with special powers for each army. Lots of unlockables and the ability to make your own maps. Tetris DS, with online multiplayer, is a must have too. Don't think I have to write too much about Tetris. But it does have a lot of extra modes, including this old school Nintendo stuff that plays in the background while you play. Starfox Command is also coming this month, I believe. Definitely looking forward to that. There will be Final Fantasy III, Mario 3-on-3 (made by Square Enix of all people), a cool RPG named Contact a new Zelda and some other good stuff coming too. Don't bother getting into a debate with RC over the games, yobod. He'll never see it and you'll just end up going in circles. Also: eventually work your way over to the DS Lite. I am actually starting to lean toward it being the best handheld ever, at this point.
If that is the same TV tuner that was announced a while back, I don't think it will be released in the US unless something changes. AFAIK, it works on a special signal that's only available in Japan. IOW, it wouldn't work in the US. It has been a while since I've look into it though. They might be able to adapt it to other markets if it gets popular.
i guess since it's so popular in japan, they could make a product like that. seeing how very few people here in the states have the DS, it wouldn't be worth bringing over here... it would be sweet if they did adapt though..
Sorry, it is just a little difficult for me to accept that the PSP only has about 5 good games (which are also available on the PS2, cheaper and better) when I've spent the majority of the summer playing 4-5 PSP games not available on the PS2 (and all for $20 or less...free in some cases thanks to downloadable demos). Usually, I won't play games for very long if they aren't any good, so something isn't quite right here...
lol point taken, im just saying i didnt enjoy my psp as much as i paid for it. ($250 for the system+ $60 for the memory stick, $30/game). i was just expecting a whole lot i guess since sony is charging a whole lot. im sure there are plenty of people love their psp's. this time i paid $70 for my ds...and it seems like a lot of game for the money
I'm sure there are. I believe that. And I also think there are a lot of folks who feel the way you do. RC just doesn't seem to accept that countering opinion. The games lineup just isn't very impressive for a lot of folks. And that isn't people who just 'don't like Sony' and don't have a PSP...you are an example. But in the big debate on the subject we had a while back, RC seemed unable to believe it. In any case, if you get into any of the online DS games let me know. I'm hoping Starfox's online will be good.
