Embiid is the better player by a lot. Jokic is chasing assists while embiid takes the toughest bail out shots imaginable
I want to know, If jokic is so efficient why doesnt he take more shots? Or are putbacks under the basket not a viable go to move
it’s like 06 Nash vs Kobe again, except this Kobe has elite efficiency, elite defense, and his team has the better record…yet they still want to hand MVP over to the Nash type player and stat dorks are going overdrive trying to gaslight everyone into thinking the Steve Nash player is very good defensively and the MVP shouldn’t even be close
just checked Vegas, and Embiid is now the favorite to win MVP Embiid: -125 Jokic: +150 Giannis: +375 Tatum: +8000
It’s going to be funny when Giannis wins it and Embiid actually finishes in 3rd in a super close three way race.
They have to continue to grow the game internationally Giannas/Jokic > Embiid in that respect Rocket River
You never know what the MVP year to year criteria are. Maybe they'll give it to Harden because he makes Embiid so good.
Not saying Jokic is throwing on purpose, but if I was him, I'd feel so relieved if I'm not even being considered for MVP and instead, the discussion centered around Giannis or Embiid. There's less distractions towards the end of the season, you don't have to play every game at a high level and most importantly, if you lose before reaching the Finals, you'll be talked about forever as the biggest fraud of a back-to-back-to-back MVP there ever was. And keep in mind - Jokic doesn't care about MVPs or stats. If Embiid or Giannis wins the MVP and Jokic doesn't make it to the Finals, I don't think anyone will necessarily ding Jokic's legacy as much as they would if Jokic won it for a 3rd straight year.
What? If I gave you an award tomorrow (one that you didn't want to win) but then everyone starts criticizing you for it about how it's undeserved or how there were better candidates than you or how you're tarnishing the history of the award by receiving it, you wouldn't feel bad that you're getting crapped on by everyone? You can both not care about an award but also care about the backlash that follows if it's given to you. The feelings aren't mutually exclusive...
Are you new to the NBA? There's always a narrative - especially in the age of social media, instant gratification and talking heads that are more important than they should be. It's also not a simple MVP. It's b2b2b. If this would be Jokic's first or even second MVP, no one would bat an eye.
Is this the thread where Embiid boosters do their best SOF impressions? FFS the MVP is supposed to be a fun award. All 3 are great. I probably would have given the award to Jokic after 50 games, but since then Jokic has fallen off and Embiid and Giannis have been great. We'll see what the remainder of the season brings, but I'd bet that Embiid will win. But really if any of these 3 win I'll be fine. Embiid boosters are being annoying as **** though, led by Morey himself. They need to chill out.
I'm not disagreeing with you. What you said just shows how dumb the MVP narrative is. A guy being able to win three straight should be an indicator of how great he is regardless of whether somebody else deserved more in any of those years. People have to put down someone in order to prop up someone else. Why does it have to this way: X deserves it better, so if Y wins, Y must be a bad guy! I've never cared about those awards because even beauty contests have more defined criteria.
