When I was a teenager, I worked graveyard shift at Whataburger: 11pm to 6am. It didn't bother me. Actually, I kinda liked it. Of course, I now have a wife and kid, and such a shift wouldn't be good for me at all.
Shift worker here. Been doing rotating shifts (5am till 5 pm or 5 pm till 5 am) for about 7 years now. I got used to it. Once you adjust, it's really a great shift to have. 4 nights 3 days off 3 days 1 day off 3 nights 3 days off 4 days 7 days off...long change, a week off every 28 days.
Um, I don't remember changing my sig to that? Anybody know what that's from? And how it became my sig?
I would think that would be rough, especially the part about having to work 12 hours at a stretch. On the other hand, you have a week (theoretically the opportunity to take a decent trip or something) every month. I would think the problem would be when your time "on" coincided with a holiday, family celebration, etc. You've probably missed a few of those. Also, I'd be afraid I would forget what day I was on.
Double time and a half for 12 hours eases the pain of working holidays. And I often forget what day it is.
yeah i have become used to the whole night shift for me. I dont like mornings much never have to be honest with you. Now i go into work at 4 pm each day and i am there till about 2 am most of the time. My sleeping pattern is completly off but i am used to it now. If i do have anything to do in the morning it's a hard thing to do but i can do it.
sorry guys...no pic yet. and i haven't really pursued it since the other thread was locked. my buddy went to jessica's work twice to get it, she wasn't in either time. but yeh...back to this thread...
Awesome!!! Chainsaws at night!!! I gotta go with day shift. It's hard to sleep when you're camped out in your office.
Night shifts rule! When you get off work you can run all the errands you need without worrying about taking off early for say a doctors appointment, going to the bank, etc. It's quieter, cooler, and you can get much more work done since there are fewer bosses, customers, etc. around. I've done both shifts and working 9-5 just plain sucks.
I worked nights Sun-Thur 11pm-7am for a year and it had its ups and downs. The work was lighter and I didn't have to deal any people. As for health reason it kind of suk. You never get use to it. Your body isn't mean to be up all night. Sure I got 6-9hrs of sleep during the day but it wasn't quality sleep. I found myself eating once a day. I really screws with your body's clock. I survive on Mountain Dew and office coffee (yuk!). The only was i would go back to it if money was really really good.
I loved working 3rd shift....until my wife had kids. It really sucks trying to work 3rd and spend no time with them. But, luckily, I found 1st shift work soon after. If i didn't have any kids, I would love working 3rd shift. I always loved being able to get things taken care of, like an oil change or running errands any day of the week. By the way, 3814, any good looking ladies at the bus stops at night?
I tried to work third shift (12:00 AM - 8:00 AM) when I worked temporarily at the local Frito-Lay factory and I could never get my sleeping habits in order. Luckily a first shift (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) job opened and I got on there.
I worked night shift for a month and it sucks. It's really hard to make that switch from stay up at night to stay up at day on the weekend, thus you pretty much lost all your social life because whenever everyone else are up and doing something you are asleep. Also sometime when you got off work and the sun is up, it's hard to go to sleep, and that will mess up your system big time. But one of my friend works at night at a hotel, and he absolutely loves it because it usually are pretty idle during the night shift so he doesn't have a whole lot to do, so I guess it varies from person to person.
I figured it to be bs way early on. I have serious doubts that the chick ever got in his car the first time. I never found the thread as entertaining as everyone else.
