Yea, I thought about football club...but thats so cheesy. Football is the term used around the world, but in America its soccer. When most americans think of football they think of the NFL. Is anyone really excited about soccer (futbol) coming here? For the 4th largest city, we really don't show much love for our sports teams. Our baseball team didnt get much love till recently...last 2-3 years. Our first football team left to Tennesse. Our basketball team almost left too. With the team we have now...why aren't we able to sell out every game and have a nice and loud home crowd?
No offense, Texas 1836 doesn't make sense to me. I think Houston 36ers could be a good name. There are some teams that have nicknames with numbers, 76ers(NBA) and 49ers(NFL).
Oh, F**K THAT!!! This is America. We call it soccer here. We already have a "Football Club" : http://www.houstontexans.com
That doesn't stop Dallas, and they actually have a legitimate American football team (as much as it pains me to say it).
Dude, that's what it stands for. If you call a soccer team FC, then it stands for Football Club (FC Barcelona, AFC Ajax)... otherwise go ahead and call it SC Houston. I thought someone was just wondering what it meant, not asking for suggestions as to what it should stand for.
That's funny. I created the 36ers name on Houstonprofootball2002 when the Texans were trying to come up with a name. I got some good praise for it, and even had Chuck Watson to say he liked it. But, alas, it didn't make the top 5.
My favorites: Houston Generals Houston 1836 Club Houston Houston FC They announced that they will be having a contest to name the team starting soon and you can now put down money to reserve season tickets.
I'm guessing it will need to be something Spanish-sounding since this team will probably target that segment of the Houston population for fans.
