I think Ferentz (NYG OL coach) or Cole Popovich (current asst OL coach) will be the new OL coach. Caley prolly leaning toward Popovich. They did work together in NE previously.
Yeah if yall read that article from the athletic, they heavily used “dummy” calls at the LOS. Says Stafford had 3 plays he gave out in the huddle, waited for pre snap motion from the defense and checked into what he thought was the best call based on that. “He receives as many as three calls from head coach Sean McVay, and these have “tags” attached to them, which are words or phrases that either clarify the call or help teammates understand any adjustments in the offensive protection that may come.” One detail that makes the Rams passing game unique is the combined use of motion and “dummy counts,” built into McVay’s scheme as it evolved with Stafford and coordinators Kevin O’Connell and Mike LaFleur. A dummy count is a fake cadence the quarterback can use to either get the defense to jump, or to show its hand pre-snap. Teams that use a lot of motion don’t typically use many dummy counts because there is too little remaining time after the motions to deploy it (sometimes the Rams burn early timeouts when doing this; they are not totally wasted because of the amount of information the offense receives). Stafford initiates all of the motions and shifts while mixing in dummy counts and adjusting the protection if needed. When he nails something pre-snap that a defense doesn’t yet know it gave away, the entire offense feels a unique energy — and they all probably talked about it before the game, too. Stafford uses hand signals as he operates, pointing to defenders, flicking his wrist to bring over a motion player or tapping one of the center’s legs to send him a message. He sometimes looks like an orchestra conductor activating each instrument in a song at triple speed
Presnap motion is big for me. Defenses eventuallly show their coverage and with a speed guy, we can lose DBs. Egbuka or Golden would be nice.
Since we didnt go with Stenavich this is actually a huge hire. Play calling, OL coaching, new talent.. in that order.
Still have to see if it's 3rd and inches when Mixon is crushing it, does he air it out on 3rd and 4th down.
Hope he's great, but hate HATE having a defensive HC and being in the perpetual hunt for an OC. Either they fail or he'll be gone fast.
This is where I'm at. Its not an internal promotion, which worried me. I have grown to trust Demeco and Caserio. The fact that they got rid of Slowik already has me thinking this is a different culture we've got now and I will follow them until they prove otherwise.
This - had issues with hiring someone with zero experience as an OC… fire him…. Comeback and hire someone else with almost the exact level of experience. He may turn out to be great but it’s a real risk, especially with a young QB that had to deal with someone similar.
