they really scored with that location. i haven't eaten there but wonder if the food is a match for the novelty of the joint. i live in brooklyn, i know where the funk is, so when i go to manhattan to eat, it is all about the food.
nothing wrong with the lucky peach but it is a hyper-trendy, glorified indoor food cart, just to set the record straight.
It is pretty good for brunch/lunch, I don't believe I've ever been able to persevere the wait for dinner.
My girlfriend works at l'ecole, the restaurant at the French Culinary Institute. About half the food is prepared by students under the guidance of their professors and it's incredible fare at a price you won't find anyplace else in the city. It's not a trendy joint but if it's cuisine you're after, it's the spot. http://www.frenchculinary.com/lecole_menus.htm
if Luna Park is still open in the summertime, its great place to people watch. it's literally in Union Square Park. there's something like 150 eateries in a two block radius of Union Square. also, I like the boat basin at west 79th street and hudson river. both are more like bars that serve food
Fred Morin and I disagree.......actually, a LOT of people disagree with you. But I think you like it that way.
^not sure if i like it but it's true, a lot of people are wrong. i was complimenting the place by the way.
For steaks the Strip House is nice Other nice places include: Mesa Grill - Bobby Flay's restaurant is pretty good If you like Cuban food check out Victor's Cafe. If you like Indian food check out Tamarind. If you like Puerto Rican food check out Sofrito. Of course there is the infamous Katz Deli where Meg Ryan had her famous orgasm. I haven't been to a good BBQ place in NYC in my last three trips so no suggestions there I have been to Brazil Grill and the steak there was OK... a lot of meat for the price and the Caipiriha are to die for!.
Tavern on the Green in Central Park is a great place to go. And it certainly covers the famous part. It is definately a tourist place, but the food is still great and the atmosphere is good. Get reservations and consider doing the set course meal.
I've never been only because I hear from so many people it's not that good and full of tourists... What dish are they famous for if I were to give it a try?
you go by across110thstreet and you would recommend BJ's over Dinosaur? Brother Jimmy's is not that great for BBQ. They do serve pabst blue ribbon and have big buck hunter and skee ball though. For BBQ, I prefer RUB, or even blue smoke. Plus the Jazz club at blue smoke is not bad. But moving from Texas to New York definitely highlights the extreme lack of BBQ options here. Dallas BBQ is the worst. I guess it fits with Dallas. Also tex-mex is sadly nonexistent here.
Something really nice where I can impress the wifey. Where you would go if price was of no concern. Really romantic. Any cuisine is fine except for French. Really like American, Mediterranean, and Steak.
I still have dreams about my first meal at Le Bernardin. If you like seafood, try to snag a reservation.
