As a southern kid stereotype, I have no problem saying sir/ma'am to the appropriate gender. She's 48; she IS old.
The reporter starts by asking the official what if the player doesn't launch himself, but still hits the receiver in the shoulder/neck with his head. The official goes onto to describe that its still a foul if the receiver is not a runner. Previously the rule was that once he had the ball, he became a runner, but now he has to establish the catch before he is considered a runner. The official goes on about it being any contact above the shoulders. Based on what he said Jackson could easily be considered defenseless. The only question is where the hit is. Which slowed down appears to be high into the shoulder. Its a very close call. If Jackson was 6'4 its an obvious 100% clean hit. I think the officials make the right call by erring on the side of safety.
Although it is still early, Reid said on his radio show today that he anticipates Jackson being back by the Colts game.
Really? I saw on twitter earlier that he claimed it would be a "stretch" if Djax played. My fantasy team just can't catch a break.
Just an interesting tidbit on that phantom wedge call on Redskins kick return last night. http://www.csnwashington.com/10/18/10/Redskins-Notes-Cooleys-Status-Unclear/landing_v3.html?blockID=333680&feedID=272 Another sign of the NFL watering down play level to accomodate for the so-called "safety rules." As if the Brady/Manning Rules, illegal touching, and excessive pass interference calls were not enough for the league. I mean I get the whole 1000 lbs of meat wedge slamming into someone and knocking him out. But come on this the NFL we are talking about. If you can't break up 3 fat guys holding hands and move at the speed of an ice cream truck then maybe you should consider joining another profession. /end rant
Watching the DeSean Jackson hit again. DeSean hadn't even got his second foot down before he was hit. I don't see how you can't consider him "defenseless".
I thought I was the only one who was confused by the defenseless wr. The ball was right next to him on the replay and i dont know any corner/safety that wouldnt have made the same play. it was a nasty hit, but was totally blown out of proportion as a defenseless wr
Of course every DB would've made that play. The question is, should it be allowed? As the rule goes, he wasn't defenseless, but how can someone defend themselves when they're hit before they even get a second foot on the ground? Seems impossible to "prepare" yourself for a hit in that little amount of time.
LOL! After watching ESPN for the last 30 minutes, I find out the end zone celebration penalty on Dallas was on Sam Hurd for throwing up the hook 'em sign and not Miles Austin for the leapfrog. The funny thing is Sam Hurd didn't go to Texas.
Yea we where talking about this at work today, did ESPN not know they would suck this year and NEVER sell out a game at home? ESPN got lucky they are actually playing decent ball but why would they ever schedule this game instead of another matchup? MNF has become the "B" primetime game since moving to ESPN.
