VY had a great 1st series and got the Titans up 7-0. I never suggested he did anything else.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought you were suggesting that he actually DID anything else lol.

And yes, Titans > Texans, even if you switch Schaub & Young. QB's can't fix crappy defenses.

 

Wins are a huge component in ranking a QB. VY wins games. Does having a ridiculously high winning % make him an all-time great? No. Does his record as a starting QB vs. Kerry Collins' record as a starting QB of the same team validate his importance to the Titans? Yes.

What the stats tell us is that for his career, Young is a terrible passer, but so far this season he has been good and he was good last season aside from one game against SD.

Do I believe Young will ever be a HOF QB? No. Do I think that he will ever lead the Titans to a SB? I seriously doubt it. Do I think he'll have a 10 plus year career with the Titans win a lot of games and be a good player? Yes.

 

Oddly enough, the Titans defense did improve last year after they went from Collins to Young...

QBs can help their defenses by creating long, time consuming drives, and by not giving the other team a short field. The Texans defense though really has just flat out sucked without regard to the offense.

 

After their 0-6 start... 6 of their final 10 games were at home.... and in that stretch, their 8 wins came against opponents with a combined W-L record of 53-75... so, it's not really a mystery why both the QB play and the defense got better.

 

Because everyone was watching the thrilling Kerry Collins - Trent Edwards matchup instead of the ALCS.

Or Kerry Collins was playing awful and throwing interceptions left and right.

 

Which I'm sure had nothing to do with the fact the Titans opponents during the first 6 weeks of the season (4 of which were road games) had a combined W-L of 58-38 (including a Pittsburgh team which later tanked after being decimated by injuries).

 

yawn....if its so easy to get a defense to play better, how come the texans cant do it? against bad teams too....at home...

 

You play crappy teams and you typically do better, it's not like I'm making this stuff up, or like it's a hard concept to understand.

That's just how the taco tastes.

And the Texans defense is apparently capable of out-crapping even the crappiest of opposing offenses. Credit to the Titans, and their defense, for actually beating teams they *should* beat. If the Texans did that, we might have made the playoffs by now. Grumble.

The Titans defense played much better against the same Texans and Jags the 2nd time around. Of course the Jags played the entire first game.

 

Indeed, the Texans defense also got WAY better as the year went on. The Texans schedule, however, wasn't so lopsided. The big picture evidence for the Titans improvement is there. The schedule did go from rock hard to pillow soft. No harm in acknowledging it. They got the job done. Well, except for when the playoffs were on the line in San Diego... buuuuuuuuuut we won't go there for Dave's sake.

 

At least vince and the titans have made the playoffs before. Would rather make it and lose, then never make it at all :grin:

If you watch videos of those helmet to helmet hits, they all have one thing in common, the tackling players head is down.

If you institute a rule where you cannot hit a player with your head down, they'd stop launching into each other.

No way in hell you want to crash into somebody head first with your facemask, that would stop those hits cold.
