Peter King with a pretty good article on the Vick/Kolb situation. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/peter_king/09/22/eagles/ Interesting perspective. I give Reid a little more credit given his explanation.
Reid: Can't predict if Kolb will still be on roster at the end of the season. Reid: Vick is the starter for the rest of the season, barring injury.
You know that ESPN poll had like 83% polled that Vick should start over Kolb. I think 7% chose Kolb and 10% was DonnyMost pressing the submit button over and over again
Sucks for Kolb, but if Vick continues to connect with Jackson like he did last week, I have no issue with it
Andy Reid PC or Andy Reid talking to the press I assume. Reid said the change would have never happened if Kolb hadn't gotten injured So did that mean Kolb lost his job just because he got injured? Reid: Uhh ... http://twitter.com/Jeff_McLane
Pretty much this. Reid: "A young quarterback needs time to mature as he grows in the game. I don't think Kolb has lost one thing. He's a franchise quarterback. He will win games, and championships, for the Eagles. But I think it's a different deal when you go out there and can't make a mistake or you're going to get crucified, which is the way this thing might have gone if he went back in there now.''' Peter King: That last point, to me, is why Reid did this. That's the key. Not from what he said, but from what I divine in knowing Reid. If Kolb goes in there and is pretty good, people are still going to be thinking, He's no Vick. He's no McNabb. In other words, he might have to be an A or A-minus to win over his team and his stadium, and that's no way to enter the formative time of your career. It sounds to me like Reid is protecting Kevin (from a lose-lose situation) and trying to win football games at the same time. Which, for the most part, I can understand. Kevin's time will come, whether in Philly or elsewhere. But he does have his own neck to watch out for. Reid knows Kevin isn't done, he's one of the most loyal and stubborn coaches in the NFL. He's not calling off the experiment after 15 snaps, looks like he's just delaying it. I will be stunned if Vick returns to the Eagles next year.
I don't see King's report of the reaction KOLB had. Does anyone have Kolb's "reaction" story? I don't believe Kolb is 100%.... I'm not there in practice, but it's just a hunch.
You know going in that your young QB is going to make mistakes, but you accept that as the cost of doing business. Then the young QB that you knew was going to make mistakes does exactly that and he's quickly benched in favor of a vet who's riding a hot hand. OK, why did they dump Donovan McNabb again, because starting Vick completely shreds the entire purpose of trading him?
