Oh yeah, did anybody else besides me watch the Eagles-Lions game yesterday because there is something else I want to say about Vick (surprise.....surprise). I remember a lot of people downing Vick when he was a full time starter for not being accurate enough as a passer. What many people fail to realize is that Vick never had the big name, reliable receivers in his offense so he was really regulated to a checkdown quarterback. He made Alge Crumpler a Pro Bowler multiple times doing this too. Now he has these types of receivers in Jackson, Maclin, Celek, Avant, etc. and all he has done with them is complete nearly 64% of his passes for 459 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 140 yards.......in 1.5 games. I don't care if you like Vick or not but you have to give some respect to those numbers, especially that fact that he hasn't had this much significant action in nearly 5 years.
The Falcons with Vick were a running team first and foremost. Warrick Dunn and TJ Duckett... Peerless Price was brought in to be Vick's #1 target and turned out to be a huge bust. I think DeSean Jackson is the perfect WR for Vick, just a speed demon in the mold of Steve Smith who can burn DBs deep or use his quickness to create separation down field. Vick made some throws yesterday that were damn impressive. And that spin move on the Lions defender that left him flying in the air grasping at nothing was vintage Vick. I don't understand the hatred for the guy anymore... He ****ed up big time, but he's paid his dues, and he's made it all the way back, and not many people thought he'd ever get back to this level, but here he is. I for one, am rooting for him again.
The Packers are supposed to have an elite NFL defense and he shredded them. I didn't even mention that both games his quarterback rating was over 100. You're right though, consistency against top tier teams would be huge but unfortunately, I don't know if we'll get the chance to see that.
Roddy White disagrees with you. Vick did suffer from his receivers, but a lot of it is on him. He was inaccurate and he did not have good touch with the football.
Not that I completely disagree with your assessment of Vick... But Roddy White was an awful receiver his rookie year. He couldn't hold onto anything. Most everyone in the organization viewed him as a bust.
Roddy White did not become a full time starter until Vick left. In fact, in Vick's last 32 games with the Falcons, White started only 13 of them. EDIT. (What moes said above too.)
Agreed. That spin move was sick. I really hope the Eagles give Vick at least another week to show his skills. I know the Eagles have a lot vested in Kolb, but if the offense is rolling, why not continue with Vick at the helm at least in the short term? He has clearly been studying the game to improve his passing and it really shows.
The Eagles seem to have more pressing issues on defense... Jahvid Best might be that good... but Shaun Hill certainly isn't.
Roddy could not catch the football. He also said once Petrino came to Atlanta that he became dedicated to football, well that was the summer Vick got indicted so we never saw the two of them together while both seemed to take the game more serious. There was an article in AJC with quotes from Roddy saying that he would eat at McDonalds everyday and was out of shape until Petrino came. This whole team was basically a joke under Jim Mora, Greg Knapp, and Ed Donatell.
Oh and the worst thing to ever happen to Vick football wise was Arthur Blank firing Dan Reeves when Vick missed most of the year with a broken leg. He hired Jim Mora who was too friendly. I remember them saying while the team would ride on the bus Mora would hop in DeAngelo Hall car and ride with him.
Yeah...but another NFL Johnson out there managed to look like the superstar he his from the get-go despite hauling in shots from a bruised and battered David Carr.
