Mike McCarthy...you did one heck of a job! Congrats on continuing the Cowboys tradition of losing and losing bigly. 6 - 10...how sweet the **** is tasting in Dallas. Losing the big game is a way of life in Dallas. Glad to see you are onboard. See you next season for another crapfest. I need one finger (the middle one) to count your accomplishments this season...a 3 game winning streak against crappy teams.
Arizona has the ball 4th and 21, midfield with 4 minutes left in the game and down by 11. They HAVE to win to make the playoffs - lose and they are out. And they punt? This is likely why Kingsbury failed at Texas Tech.
It has a higher chance than the 0% you have to win if you punt. There's a reason people throw Hail Mary's at ends of games instead of just giving up. Hail Mary's are much less likeyl, and Murray has completed one of those this season. If nothing else, run a screen pass and see if you can break it for 20 yards. Or just throw to Hopkins and hope for DPI. Any scenario is better than 0%.
If they got a 3-and-out after punting, then they get the ball back. Score a TD and 2 point conversion. Then, kick an onside kick and hope they can get in FG position to tie it.. That's about all they could do. If you fail on 4th-and-21, then the game is over for sure with 4 minutes left.
If you fail on the 4th and 21, you're in the same boat as if you punted - you still need a 3-and-out and would get the ball with the same amount of time. You'd just have to go 80ish yards instead of 60ish yards. Titans just completed a 50 yard pass is a sorta-similar situation to beat the Texans. Fitzpatrick did it last week to win a game for Miami (completed the pass AND got the facemask penalty). These things happen all the time - and are so much easier than a hail mary because LA has to cover 40 yards of field instead of a 10 yard endzone. And all sorts of things besides completing the 20 yard pass work: a defensive holding, DPI, facemask, roughing the passer, etc.
