i actually didn't have a problem with him going for it. that's the kind of go-for-the-jugular thing great teams do and pull off all the time. i bet every colts fan in the world was praying they were just pretending and were going to punt it. like when pete carroll went for it on 4th and 2 instead of punting in the rose bowl. i so wanted them to punt because i knew the odds of them stopping vince were much lower than us stopping them. of course this was an even crazier call (and they may have actually gotten it and been screwed by the spot) but it was the same scenario. keep it out of the other qb's hands and keep it in yours.
If he makes it, it's a genius call (see 1996 Big 12 Championship game). With UT, they were pretty sure they couldn't stop Nebraska from going down the field. But here, they had shut down the Colts offense pretty well all day long. I guess New England didn't think they could stop them yet again (maybe based on the previous drive).
Haha....Wow, I have to tip my hat to the Bengals for the first time, well, ever. No injuries, no excuses, no Carson Palmer tricking himself into being clutch....none of that. The Bengals straight beat the Steelers at their own game so congrats to you guys. I've been harping on the Steelers' lackluster special teams unit all season long while plenty others around these parts seemed to shrug off those concerns. For that reason, i'm not surprised at all that a special teams score was the difference in the game. Oh well, it should be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. Today is your day though. Enjoy. P.S. Leigh Bodden with an INT tonight
He is a Cheater . . .a CONFIRMED CHEATER walk around it all you want say others do say whatever . . . but DA WATAHBOY IS A CHEATAH!! Rocket River
I'm guessing you don't remember his stay in Cleveland. But to be fair, Cleveland was a mess, anyway at that point.
No way you chance that play. There is Confidence . .. then there is Arrogance so . . .either you was Arrogant about your offense or Not very confident in your defense Rocket River
maybe so, but plutoblue11 was acting like belichick just chose 30 yds vs 70 yds, while ignoring the significant chance that the game would be over if the patriots made it. what do y'all figure the odds are tom brady gets you a 4th and 2? 60%? 70%? even conservatively it has to be at least 50%. and based on the ease with which the colts were moving it by the end, what were the odds they go 70 yds in 2 minutes with 3 timeouts? i'd say it had to be at least 50/50. so even if the odds they score the TD from 30 yds out are 100%, the odds are still on your side. it was probably still too risky, but it's the kind of thing the patriots have done before to rip people's hearts out.
... and still lose the game. Word of advice... if you're going to take the side of "supporting" the decision, at least bring up a game where that decision worked. Instead you bring up yet another example of how over-coaching and "going for the jugular" ends up losing a game. If the Pats don't have that much trust in their defense... they've come a LONG way from their "elite" championship days. The AFC is WIDE open...
There was nothing genius about it. Very dumb decision that cost them the game. Period. Belichik outsmarted himself. Dumb risks don't become genius calls when when they pan out.
Anybody thinking Belicheck is a "genius" for that call is basing their opinion on his past experience. It was a ridiculously stupid call, and his hubris finally got the better of him. Nothing sweeter than watching that cheating assclown fail.
The Pats are going to win the Super Bowl. Belicheck's arrogance was on full display tonight and it/he cost them the game! Now he will somewhat humble himself and execute like a strategist and not a tyrant. PS: Belicheck is an A-hole for his post game handshakes. Jim Caldwell should of just walked past him and do this--->
damn, i missed it, i was watching something else. i just heard what happened. what is belichick doing? he get to cocky and make that call? oh well, screw that cheater
