I know Vick didn't show much improvement in his years in Atlanta in the passing game, but I thought it was sooooo stupid that smart football people actually thought he'd never get a shot at playing qb again. I like Sean and John on 1560 and I think John is a brilliant football guy, but I remember those two being some of the most adamant about. they were saying the only way they would give him a shot was like as a slot receiver or something.

forget the running, dude has arguably the strongest arm in the league.

He looked pretty impressive out there yesterday. I can see the Eagles taking a lot of calls from teams this morning.

    Trade Kolb damn it!!!

Vick looked pretty good during the preseason too while Kolb looked rather mediocre. I guess that further verifies MadMax's statement that preseason matters more than what most people give it credit for.

Agreed. I have Kolb on my fantasy bench, and I'm reallly thinkin of droppin him (not like he's that important anyways, I got the chosen one Peyton Manning at the helm).

As for other around the league thoughts:

Houston - Beautiful. Looking forward to this season (especially because Bears looked like garbage).

    Chicago - See above.

Detroit - There goes your dreams, right with Stanford.

Minnesota - Eh. Unless something miraculous happens, the NFC North might actually be close this year because none of the teams have stepped up and shown domination.

Green Bay - Surprising. I thought they'd fare much better, but their line looked weak against Philly. Also losing Grant doesn't help.

Philly - Vick looked good. If Kolb gets start next week and doesn't shape up, I expect Vick to take over rather quickly. Probably alot more reps with starting unit this week too.

Washington - I really like their defense.....alot of playmakers. I feel like they should be even better as the season progresses. I can see them doing decent on offense as well if they get it together.

Dallas - Hahahaahahahahaha here comes another 7-9 season. Miles Austin does look great though, pro bowl status perhaps.

And for some veteran receivers who get counted out ever year, Hines Ward & Donald Driver still make it happen.

I'm excited to see Baltimore's revamped offense and consistent defense.....want to see how Sanchez does, and who his fav reciever is......and who ends up being Rivers's #1 reciever.

Grendal, how do you think our Bears look this year? I'm sorta upset that they won in that fashion, it's gonna lead to a whole lotta "i told you so" boasting and ego that this team already suffers from too much of.....although the defense looked good, Forte and Cutler looked good.....recievers looked lost often, and O-line was o-my godness, scary. And not in a good way.

LOL! I have commented on these two "stellar" performances which people keep pointing at and saying he proved himself. Don't bring up the offensive live because it has been crap and unstable for the past 2 seasons. Here is some more on Kolb's illustrious career.

    1. New Orleans Saints: Yeah, he three for almost 400 yards but that is all that people grasp at when talking about this game. He only threw for 2 touchdowns and he also threw 3 picks, 2 of which that went back for scores and he had a rating of about 73. The Eagles were also down the entire game which causes an already pass happy offense to go super pass happy which is why he got to pass a whopping 51 times.

    2. Kansas City Chiefs: It was the Chiefs, enough said about that game.

And here let me go a little further into it:

    3. He looked mediocre all preseason. Everybody and their mother hyped him up but he looked like nothing special out there at all during those 3 games.

    4. In his first significant action since last season, he had another poor showing against Green Bay completing only 50 percent of his passes for a 24 yards (2.4 yards per pass) and a 56 rating.

    5. In his only other significant action against the Ravens 2 years ago, He was 10-23 with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions (1 going back for a touchdown on the longest play in NFL history).

And I say all of this as an Eagles fan. Did McNabb have his faults? Sure, but he took this franchise to one of its greatest periods of success ever and did it most of the time while throwing to the likes of Pinkston, Lewis, Mitchell, etc. No way you give up on him to go to an unproven commodity. I'm not a McNabb only fan either I just think the Eagles chances of success are better with him than Kolb...way better.

I know there are a lot of Kolb/Houston fans so I expect some backlash but I'll ask again, what has Kolb done that proved he deserved the starting QB position in Philadelphia over McNabb? There is no way you give it to him unless he won that position.

Man, bitter sweet Monday. My Texans looked awesome kicking Indy's ass, and my cowboys offense looked like crap.

If Jason Garret calls one more WR screen for no gain I might drive to Dallas and kick his ass myself.

If it was in the middle of the game, I would agree. But when it's the last play of the game, you have to be prepared for what's coming and there wasn't any question that Rak was coming on the blitz one on one.

But I think the fact that Barron was getting abused all game along with the fact that he's the 2nd most penalized player in the league adds to it.

the mcnabb move is about money, you don't want to get stuck with an aging qb owing him fifty million dollars beyond the age of 35 based on what he did when he was 25.

teams in the nfl get blasted for hanging on to older guys all the time. you have to make tough decision. philly is a young team with a young nucleus, this is the time to bring in a young guy to grow with the other young guys. maybe kolb isn't the guy, that still remains to be seen, but he isn't the reason for getting rid of mcnabb.

They looked a hellva lot better than they did in the preseason. The D looked very good with the major cogs looking strong, I would have been very happy with them overall if they hadn't had a massive brain fart at the end.

The Offense look fairly impressive but big turnovers just hurt them overall, game should have been a blowout if they didn't keep turning the ball over. Cutler looks better than last year, only 1 real bone headed play with the pick.

He should have had another TD if the WR didn't drop a great pass. WR will take a little time to gel with Cutler but overall I'm pretty happy with what I saw, they moved the ball fairly well. Oline needs to get better overall, the 1st and goal at the 1 was just an embarrsment all around.

I'm a Houston native who started watching football in the early 70s. When my parents divorced my dad moved to Dallas. I went to oilers games with my granddad and cowboys games with my dad. I loved both teams until the oilers left. Now I love both the texans and cowboys and have had season tickets to each.

I'm raising my kids the same way.

I'm not saying that Kolb was the reason McNabb got the boot, I'm just saying you don't trade a franchise quarterback away to go with an unproven commodity. I think McNabb's last two performances in an Eagles jersey had more to do with it than anything.

I think it worked out pretty well for Green Bay. At some point, if you believe the backup is ready to go and that your franchise QB has already peaked, you have to throw the new guy out there or risk losing him. I think Philly felt they were approaching that point with Kolb, who did look good in limited time last year. I think looking back in a year or two, the Kolb move won't look bad at all - but any time you have a new QB, there will always be growing pains.

I'm just saying that the hold didn't cost the Cowboys a touchdown. Barron getting beat cost the Cowboys a touchdown. His hold allowed it to look like a touchdown for a minute, and there was about a 5% chance that he would have gotten by with it.

Green Bay's situation was different. Favre retired and then decided to come back 4 months later. I believe there will be some growing pains, no doubt but I just don't see Kolb as ever being great, heck not even good. I hope I am wrong, dead wrong, but that's just my opinion.

Green Bay didn't force Brett Favre out. He retired and then tried to come back. If he never retired he would not have been forced out of Green Bay that off-season.
