Boring and kind of disappointing; I expected more snap, crackle, and pop. It was more like a fizzle. First games of the season in primetime are supposed to be, well, more exciting.
It was looking okay for a few drives in the first half: namely the phenomenal opening drive, and Favre's 30 yd strike to Shiancoe. But giving the ball over and over to Pierre Thomas does not an exciting game make.
Yep, it was boring. Slow, low scoring, and non stop short runs. After the first there weren't many long exciting plays.
The Vikings lost this game in large part because Brad Childress forgot Adrian Peterson plays for him.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5558350&postcount=45 Hey, I'm 1-0! Of course, that one was easy to predict, but still... 1-0!
Did Childress forget, or did Old Man Favre decide that he didn't care AD was there and decided to try to win it himself like he has so many times in the past and check out of every running play? Either way, Im just glad my man Sean Payton realized he should bring the running game in the 2nd half and stuck with it, regardless of how boring it was to the neutral observer. I love how many different ways the Saints can win.
Either way Peterson didn't have a single touch in the 4th quarter, despite being very effective in this game. He only got one 2nd down carry in the 3rd quarter. It was just awful to watch the Vikings play like they were down 3 touchdowns.
I have a feeling it's going to be a long season for the Vikes. I haven't gotten the vibe from anything I've seen of Favre that says he was fully convinced he should have come back this season. I think he had to be convinced to come back and could be a dangerous difference in this year compared to last year.
I think the Vikes are going to be OK. Losing Sidney Rice, Favre adjustment period, opening on the road against the Saints, this was bound to happen. They'll be better. Favre started slow last year too -- people just didn't notice because they were playing crap teams to start the season then.
Brad Childress has got to be one of the most inept offensive coaches in the NFL. You have a stud like Adrian Peterson who can not only run between the tackles, but has blazing speed to get to the outside, PLUS can catch the ball in the flat or the slot, and he STILL has trouble getting him the ball?? Absolute garbage.
