Unrestricted free agent signings/trades: Jets: Lance Laury (third string LB), LT (washed up RB), Cromartie (one good year 3 years ago... Phillip Buccannon 2.0 ), Nick Folk (journeyman kicker), Holmes (actually talented, but a question mark coming into lineup after suspension), and as of today, Jason Taylor (had a decent year last year, but a shade of his former self). Texans: Matt Turk (woot #1 puntar last year), CC Brown (vomit), Wade Smith (can't be worse than what we had, but who knows), Rackers (pretty much an upgrade), Walter (talented and solid). So, yeah, the Jets have been more active (in reality, not by much, Texans signed 5 FAs, Jets 4 with 2 trades), but have they really gotten better with those acquisitions? Maybe. But doing stuff isn't the same as doing the right stuff.
Its nice to see the texans in 3 primetime games. and divisional games in weeks 16 and 17, wont stop the colts rest their starters, if they clinched everything by those games. Its going to be nice beating the Colts in a monday night we could beat the eagles, depends on how the starting QB is doing (kolb or vick).
Think about it this way. The two toughest games, as always, are the Colts - what more could you ask for with those than opening day (all summer to prepare) and the Monday night after a bye week (15 days to prepare)? Yes, I know the Colts and Manning have that time to prepare too. But in general, the toughest thing about playing the Colts is how different they play than any other team in the league, and I really think this could work out to the Texans' benefit.
ummm....they were one game away from the superbowl... You can talk about how lucky they were to get into the playoffs, but they went into the playoffs and were one game away from playing in the superbowl.
After last year's return from bye and last 2 years' openers I'm too cautious to apply something like common sense to Texans football. Less than 40 hours till draft time!
You know...I'd feel a lot better about that if time to prepare had been of use to this team in the past. If we didn't look so overwhelmed at the beginning of last season.
It doesn't matter what the schedule is in the NFL, every team can beat you if you don't execute. But I'd bet no team on our schedule is looking forward to defending against our passing game or trying to block Ryans and Cushing.
With all due respect, the Colts are 15-1 against the Texans all-time. Do they really need to "prepare" for us?
If you really think games under the David Carr and Dom Capers era have much at all to do with the Texans and Colts in 2010, that might be one of the silliest statements ever posted on this BBS. The Texans and Colts played twice last year. In the first, in Indianapolis, the Texans were a shanked Kris Brown kick from overtime and lost a heartbreaker in the final second, and a blown goal-line call against Ryan Moats was probably all that kept them winning without even needing a Brown kick. In Houston, the Texans got out to a 17-0 lead (that would've been 21-0 had Andre Johnson not dropped a point-blank TD), and the game only began to swing when Jacques Reeves was called for a 45-yard pass interference penalty that ESPN's Ed Werder said was the worst call he'd ever seen in his life. Yes, you better believe the Colts are concerned about those Texans games and have them circled.
Cat already made a great point, but to further that point, the last 4 games between the Texans and Colts have each one-score or less margins and have been decided in the final minutes. The Colts are very much so concerned about the Texans.
Last year's return from bye really wasn't that bad from a coaching perspective, I don't think. Everyone knew the Titans were a solid team, in spite of the record, and the Texans definitely were focused and played well enough to win. Difference was Bironas making a 50+ yarder and Brown missing two. I'm not the biggest Kubiak fan, but I wouldn't use the Titans game too much against him when talking about his personal failures. Now the Jets game on the other hand... you're exactly right on that. That's definitely cause for concern.
It seems like you say this about half of the posts you quote. Obviously, I was being facetious by saying they don't need to prepare... Every NFL team has to prepare for every other NFL team every week, otherwise you're going to get your ass kicked no matter what the team record(s). I just have a hard time believing that the Colts will be overly concerned about us until we BEAT them. Something we haven't done since 2006. Yes, I know the last few games were close, but from the Colts perspective, they spotted us 17 points at home and STILL managed to beat us. You don't think that affects their self-confidence in a positive way? FWIW, I think this is the year we finally lay an ass-whipping on them in a meaningful game.
If you really think that is one of the silliest statements ever on this BBS, you must not be reading the forum correctly.
