Historically speaking, it doesn't end up meaning much. Typically teams are bunched around their division more than anything and there's not a huge correlation between the SOS and how well a team does. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft09/news/story?id=4027503
I agree within the division the other schedules are like 2, 5 and 11. While the NFC West has 3 teams in the bottom 5. That and with some parity in the league it really is more of an indicator at the end of the season looking back rather than the beginning of the season looking forward. Just interesting info though.
Yeah, it's all about the company you keep, apparently. The NFC West is really exciting because you never know whose turn it is going to be to stand atop that dung heap as champion of football's worst division. 49ers will be the darling pick this year.
Saints are playing the Viks on opening night...no suprise there but I bet it was going to be the Steelers before the Ben crap. http://www.wkbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=12343116
myth? do some research. 11th largest among MLB cities, for one. That's large compared to, say, Bryan-CollegeStation. But not compared to actual large markets, like D/FW and NYC.
goodell tweeted a little while ago that Jets will open up at home Monday nite (could be Texans 1-in-8 chance there) and that Giants will open up at home Sunday afternoon, so know they will not be Texans opener.
Actually wouldn't mind it being early in the season before they get all their new people in the right places plus Holmes will be suspended. It would be tough to open up their new place but got to do it sometime might as well do it then or ideally within the first couple of weeks.
It would of never been the Steelers. The NFL usually gives the Super Bowl champ the first game and it's usually and inner conference game.
The Texans will play the Jets in NJ or Turkey Day. And they played each other on the opening game last year, so I highly doubt Howard Katz would do that again.
just got my news on it - wont post it all, but open season Vs. Indy 9/12, Cowboys week 3 on 9/26. Host one MNF game with Baltimore 12/13. no Sunday nite games.
Well the Colts played the Bears a few years ago and that game would have been an awesome way to start the season. Edit - I meant Steelers @ Saints using the above game as reference.
Pretty good schedule, for both the Texans and Cowboys...good as in tough and I'm looking forward to the season...
sorry when shot it out i was getting all my info together - here is what i got. 9/12 – Indy @ Home 9/19 – @ Washington 9/26 – Dallas @ Home 10/3 - @ Oakland 10/10 – NY Giants @ Home 10/17 – Chiefs @ Home 10/24 – Bye 11/1 - @ Indy MNF 11/7 – San Diego @ Home 11/14 - @ Jax 11/21 - @ jets 11/28 – Tennessee @ home 12/2 - @ Philly – Thursday nite 12/13 – Baltimore @ Home MNF 12/19 – Tennessee @ Home 12/26 - @ Denver 1 / 2 – Jaxsonville @ Home
yep but only host 1 - not really a quality home matchup in last 6 weeks for flex scheduling either, unless Tennessee, but doubtful get flexed there.
Good point, pretty sure it will end up being a MNF or SNF game sometime mid season once Ben gets back.
