I'll accept this one because of the cap argument...kind of. How is this different than Gregg Williams taking the defensive line out for dinner after the game as a congratulations in a game where they "just happened" to knock the quarterback out?

    I don't see it.

Playing football causes injuries. I don't see this distinction either.

Did you read what I was responding to?

Got it..so there is more to the game of football than merely, "go out there and hurt the other guy!!" I think you agree with me on that...I was arguing that point with rhad.

Not sure how to respond to this because I don't disagree. Was I supposed to? :)

    First one is CLASSIC.

Jimmy Johnson (Mike Ditka) vs. Buddy Ryan

So people who support Greg Williams: would you go to me nieces school and explain to her class it's ok to purposefully injure people for money, to not follow the rules, to not listen to authority or your employer after they tell you to stop and to lie? Awesome thanks.

It was very refreshing to hear Eric Winston on the radio the other day instead of all I've been hearing "MANS GAME SON!!!, "I teach my kid in PEE WEE football to injure players after the play ends" derp derp "I wish bounties were legal I'M A MAN I'M 40!" drivel. I mean, how inadequate are you in the pants? [IMG] [IMG]

I don't think anybody qualifies for that.

I'm way late to this, adding some 2 cents.

Stumbled onto this randomly, 2010 article about the Laron Landry spitting incident, Brian Baldinger saying he intentionally broke Eric Swann's ankle on purpose and was CONGRATULATED for it (Buddy Ryan Eagles?) cuz Swann was a dirty player.

What he describes is a lot like baseball intentionally throwing a ball at a batter, beaning a guy for some eye-for-an-eye payback, for what in the pro sports is considerned REACTIONARY "just cause". Just in football, payback form is a lot more vicious.

So having a bounty might be a CLOSE cousin of the LONG existing "Rip His HEAD Off to WIN" nature of pro football.

I still think its all cheap and sleezy, and Gregg Williams is an idiot.

Wow, that's worse than bounties IMO. Way worse.

The entire saints fan base is in denial. They think this is some conspiracy against them to destroy their franchise by the NFL. This will likely be a turning point in NFL regulation.
