Finesse is a quality that the average American sports fan tends to overlook while it celebrates a crunching hit, rim rattling slam dunk and homerum. It's why ESPN doesn't have a top ten for line play and great blocking. It's a society raised and spoiled with instant gratification so a sport like Rugby/Aussie rules would not stick IMO. I have seen great progress with Soccer and the MLS but then you have moes saying:

    so I don't know.

If you have a ESPN3 access and can stay up till 3am they show ARL live. That's how I watched games for a while.

My sports pallet is far more sophisticated than dunks, taters, and long bomb TDs. I watch the Champion's League, I watch Rugby, I enjoy watching Golf, and hell I've even watched the Cricket World Cup and found it fascinating.

I'm just saying don't call the NFL a p***y sport when you love a sport that has great athletes flying around the pitch like ballerinas at the slightest inkling of contact.

Anybody remember Ed McCaffery and his little kid shoulderpads?

He was the last guy to wear those. A discontinued model from the 1980's. He said the lighter weight gave him a speed edge, plus they were less restrictive. This is where I see the NFL going back to with its new safety rules. The league will fight the players on it, claiming it is for their own safety, but eventually, for performance reasons, they will want to return to the days of less pads. If you can't hit a "defenseless receiver" anymore, who needs giant pads then, right? The rules are eventually going to change enough to make hitting and getting hit less of a key component of the game.

I never did call the NFL a p***y sport. I said that it's always been a violent sport but Roger wan't it too keep making money thus changing the rules to keep players healthy. You should watch Messi play. He takes a beating but still manages to break free and do his thing.

and the change of pace happens because of fewer injuries? is that the idea?

No no, there's less TV breaks, less timeouts, less dead time between plays... etc.

less TV breaks means less ad revenue...I don't see that happening.

More lawsuits means less revenue as well.

There are other ways to sell ads, btw.

I think people will put up with less violence in the sport, but if you keep it the same sluggish pace and structure, it may hurt ratings.

A large part of the reason people sit through 180 seconds of commercials is for the 10 seconds of carnage.

Also, these are not changes I'm saying will happen overnight. It will be a very gradual process that will span several generations.

I think Greg Williams will never get a job again. Sean Peyton should not be allowed to work again either. If you aren't good enough you aren't good enough, but trying to win by injuring someone is not what I like about sports. I mean we get enough slack for MJ being out when we won.

I watch him frequently and enjoy it.

I really can't get into MLS because its like an AAU basketball game compared to the NBA.

Greg should never be allowed to coach a team again.....at any level.

I actually like the halting pace of the NFL. On the one hand when watching live it allows you to still enjoy the intense carnage but still have small breaks here and there to talk to people or make a quick run to the kitchen without missing anything.

And when watching a recording, but skipping the breaks between plays, you can reduce a 3 hour game to like one hour or so. If they decreased the intensity and flattened out the pace, I would definitely be less interested.

I'm not condoning what Greg Williams said, but that's the not worse thing I've heard from a coach or player.

It sounded like regular coach speak, take out the other teams WILL to fight.

That is what he meant by take out the head, not actually try to HIT someone in the head, but to take out their will by killing the head of a snake.

I just don't think that audio was that big of a deal.
