Cowgirls sign a dozen rookie FAs

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys signed 12 rookie free agents Thursday, and those players will join the team's eight draft picks at minicamp starting Friday.

Nine other first-year players will attend the camp for a weekend tryout.

Running back Julius Jones, the Cowboys' first overall pick, taken in the second round (43rd pick), and the other rookies will be in minicamp through Sunday.

The free agents signed Thursday were receivers James Newson from Oregon State, Brandon Middleton from Houston and Terrance Copper from East Carolina; defensive backs Steve Cargile from Columbia and Tom Crowder from Arkansas; defensive ends Kevin Emanuel from Florida State and Darrell Lee from Florida; linebackers Ryan Fowler from Duke and Kalen Thornton from Texas; defensive tackle Cedric Hilliard from Notre Dame; fullback Lousaka Polite from Pittsburgh; and offensive lineman Darrick Sanders from Arkansas-Monticello.

The other drafted players are offensive tackle Jacob Rogers from Southern California (second round, 52nd pick overall); guard Stephen Peterman from LSU (third round, 83rd pick); defensive backs Bruce Thornton from Georgia (fourth round, 121st pick), Nathan Jones from Rutgers (seventh round, 205th pick) and Jacques Reeves from Purdue (seventh round, 223rd pick); and receivers Sean Ryan from Boston College (fifth round, 144th pick) and Patrick Crayton from Northwest Oklahoma (seventh round, 216th pick).
