what am i supposed to be seeing there?

i'm seeing Elway hitting nearly 4000 yards passing in his 3rd season. That's remarkable. I realize he has far more passing attempts than Vick does...but what does that say about Vick considering the fact he plays in the West Coast offense???

I just think a quarterback ought to be able to throw more effectively than Vick to be considered a Pro Bowl type guy. Vick has one way to beat you. That's great. I'll take a quarterback who can pass better than he can run everyday of the week, and twice on Sundays. I want his legs to be a second option...not a first. At least in the pro game...where defenses are bigger, stronger and far faster.

Vicks legs are not his first option. I dont know where you get that from. Their is not doubt that he can make it happen with his legs. Look at his SECOND season he gave you 2900 yds in 15 games. And he gives you damn near 1000 yds rushing. You have near 4000 yds of production from his position.... Whats the problem? I think you are forgetting the fact that he is going into his fifth season. 4th as a starter. When he gets into his 12th season then judge him. I think its kinda early to call him overated.

i'm judging him as a Pro Bowl QB. he made the Pro Bowl this last season. to me, there were better options. Jake Delhomme was one. There were others.

of course all my criticism is subject to change as he improves. i understand that. i'm not condemning his future...unless he doesn't change, because then he won't be healthy enough to have much of one.

as for "near 4000 yards"...David Carr combined for nearly 4,000 total yards last season...i don't think he's going to the Pro Bowl after last year's season...despite the fact he had a higher passer rating than Vick has had in any year in the league.

vick gets mentioned with guys like culpepper..manning..mcnabb. he's not those guys. those are pro bowl QB's. Vick's body of work doesn't get him there, in my mind...his amazing athletic ability and running game, notwithstanding.

All I can say and see is Vick single handedly takes his team to the playoffs. "Year 1 - Rookie He didnt start played 8 games. Year 2 - He took his team to the playoffs as a 2nd year player and a 1st year starter. Year 3 - Got hurt in the preseason his team goes 5 - 11. Year 4 - He takes his team to the NFC championship game." Mark my words, he will win a SuperBowl one day. I respect your opinion though, as I hope you do mine. Maybe you just like for your team the more "traditional qb" I cant knock that. :D

i totally respect your opinion. my opinion isn't anything more than my best guess from my own experience.

when vick plays really good running defenses, he gets shut down..and he doesn't have the arm to counter it. he doesn't add much diversity to the offensive attack. they have a stable of running backs. you balance that with a guy who can throw down field. i like my quarterback to be mobile. but i don't want him running the ball 120 times a season. everytime my QB, Carr, runs I cringe, because I worry he'll get injured. there is a reason why great option-style college QBs don't translate well to the NFL...the defenses are bigger and stronger. you have to have an arm to keep them honest...and the desire to pass first, run second. to stick in the pocket and get your receivers open. it keeps you safer and keeps defenses honest.
