Not really. The passage shown from Reddit in that article is wrong. The guy forgot to include absolute pressure and just did the math using gauge pressure. I clicked on the reddit link and it seemed like he now fixed it.

Well it would depend on where and at what temperature they initially inflated the balls at. Using Guy-Lussac's ideal gas law, the relationship between pressure and temperature is (P1/T1)= (P2/T2) where is P is pressure (absolute + gauge) and T is temperature in Kelvin.

Absolute pressure of gas= 14.7 psi. Game temperature was 49 degrees (282.59K)

Say the Patriots inflated the gauge pressure to 12.5 psi. 14.7+12.5= 27.2 psi. Let's also say the room temperature was 70 degrees (294.26 K)

    (27.2/294.26K) = (P2/282.59K)

    P2= 11.42 psi.

If they initially inflated it at 75 degrees, then the psi would be about 11.15 psi.

This also doesn't include the natural wear and tear during the game and the rain, combined with how much longer the Patriots had the ball, which *could* decrease the psi slightly more.

I don't know what the actual psi measurements were at halftime, but if they were near this range, it's something to be noted.

They came out and said that 11 of the 12 footballs were at 2 pounds under the legal level which means they were at 10.5 and one was within the legal level which means it was at least 12.5.

I guess the science was picky about which footballs it would work on and which it would leave alone. The excuses don't really stand up to scrutiny.

Will folks still care by then? I don't know but...

They'll start caring again when coach and qb get suspended for about 8 games to start next season. They'll lose a couple of draft picks too.

So after seeing all the statistics this isnt just a recent advantage the Patriots benefited from but has been going on for years. If all of this is true then the NFL not just the Patriots got some splainin to do. How in the heck do you do this for several years and not get busted? We've all been had!

If the NFL doesn't announce any sort of judgement before the Super Bowl, I'll have a hard time taking the game seriously, believing that there are cheaters playing in the game. I feel many others will feel that way too. I hope the Pats get booed out of Phoenix.

Also, if the NFL does wait, punishment better be SEVERE. I'm talking 6-8 games for Brady, a season for Bellicheck, a million plus for Kraft, and draft picks. Serious.

I"m fine with the NFL saying they will put asterisks to every Patriot season since Bellichick and Brady have been together with the short statement: "Due to cheating."

Obviously it will be conversation but I doubt many people will not take the game seriously. Deflated balls or not, the Pats killed the Colts and were the class of the AFC pretty much all season. They will have legal balls come Sunday.

This is coming from the an ultimate Pats hater.

Wait...the Patriots had deflated footballs? LOL come on guys, no advantage can be gained! You idiots, all teams do this!

Wait...the Patriots fumble at a rate so much lower than teams in history that it resembles winning the lottery? Patriots are just that much better coached!

Wait...those same players fumble more when they end up on other teams? Well they are outside of the Brady leadsership cone!

Wait...the balls that the Patriots were playing with were deflated "well below" the allowed amount? DUH! Weather guys...hello! Science...how does it work?

Wait...the balls that the Patriots were playing with were deflated more than the team they were playing against? The temperature in their lockeroom was .25555 degrees higher in temperature which results in a lower PSI when you go outside! Come on! Do you even WATCH youtube?

Wait...multiple teams have complained about this to the league? Well they are jealous!

Wait...scientists have proven that the game temperature difference would not have caused a 2 lb drop in PSI? Did they factor in rubbing the ball? And time of possession??? And the crowd noise????

Wait...the referees took the balls out of the game because they seemed so egregious? Why didn't they notice before hand!!! Conspiracy! It's all on the officials to keep the balls under control!

Wait...the Ravens complained to the league about this the week before? Sounds like sour grapes led to a setup!

Wait...Jerome Bettis claims he could tell the difference on the air? Jerry Rice thinks this is a big deal? These black players have a problem with Brady! Racism!

Wait...Mark Brunnell thinks this is a big deal? Did he win a superbowl? NO!

Wait...Troy Aikman thinks this is a big deal? GAY! LOL!

The defense of the Patriots reminds me of Robert De Niro reciting the code of conduct in Men of Honor...

The Patriots did NOT use deflated footballs in a game!

If it is determined that the Patriots DID use deflated footballs in a game then it is the weather's fault!

If it is determined that the weather is NOT to blame then it means all teams do it prior to inspection by the officials!

If it is determined that the footballs were fine when inspected by the officials then it means that they didn't inspect them properly!

If it is determined that the footballs were inspected properly then it means the process is flawed!

If it is determined that the process works but the Patriots may have gone above and beyond to ensure the deflation of the footballs then there is no advantage to be gained!

If former players come out in droves saying there is an advantage to be gained then they must liars!

If it is determined that they are NOT liars then it is impossible to blame Brady because he didn't know!

If former players come out in droves saying there is no way he didn't know then they must be liars!

and on and on and on and on...

He's putting the commissioner on the spot. Even bringing up Goodell having dinner at Kraft's house during the AFC championship weekend and their friendship. Sherman is so slick.

The NFL front office starting to look inept again.

This morning it was release that 10 of the 11 footballs were under inflated by 1 pound or less. Only one ball was 2.

Now the Ravens players and coaches are saying that they didn't complain, that the equipment manager for the Ravens complained... except he wont comment.

The NFL tried to catch the Patriots in the act against the Colts. They were present at the Colts/Pats game..... and didn't catch anyone messing with the balls.

Hub Arkush this morning was saying that the perception within the media and NFL circles is starting to change....

I agree with Hub.... put up or shut up.... if the Pats cheated, then come out and prove it, otherwise it isn't fair to the Pats and it makes the league look like a bunch of idiots.

It's amazing to me how salty and hostile r/nfl is to anyone mentioning deflategate. In their minds, the Patriots have already been exonerated and this is a witchhunt.

I was looking at the lack of Fumbles by the pats
If you have the takeaway advantage . .. . .you win most of the times
IF deflating the balls means less fumbles
    That is a HUGE advantage

It's funny to me that there are still idiots calling the talk shows and saying none of this matters because the pats would have beaten the colts anyway.

Do you think behind close doors that the NFL is hoping Seattle wins the super bowl...?

    Huh?

The NFL went to the Colts/Pats game and tried to catch the Pats in the act. They then released information that the balls were under inflated.

If the NFL wanted to collude with the Pats they would have handled this very differently.

I think that behind closed doors the NFL has been backed into so many corners by previous decisions at their own whim to pacify the media and their power trip that it doesn't know what to do now. They are realizing now they are going to take it up the pass. But Goodel built his own house and now he has to try and get out of it. It's a no win situation. All the NFL can do now is try to minimize the backlash it receiving and so the clear choice was to claim they are investigating hard and fast, and going through due process, but don't want to take Brady out of the Superbowl, so they will talk to him at the very last possible moment, and at the same time realizing their sting operation had a lot of flaws, and the Patriots are laying the foundation for them to get egg on their face, but realizing they already have egg on their face.
