You mean the Rivers who didn't score a point in the 1st half with despite having terrific talent around him (the most difficult RB and TE in the game to match up with). Even his receivers, Chambers and Jackson, look like all pro's compared to Tenn's group. Now he did make some plays in the 2nd half, but he had guys 10 yards in the clear of the Tenn DBs. Watch this weekend to get a read on the real Rivers. Both Vick and McNabb in their playoff runs have had explosive RBs who can catch and fine tight ends. I would call the receivers (pre TO to Phily) a "draw" with Tenns, before Roydell Williams got injured--most all of these guys' groups suck by NFL standards. Now it will be tough for VY to match or eclipse McNabb, because McNabb was a dominant football player in his prime--maybe did more with less than any player in the league the last 15 years. But I don't have much doubt VY will eclipse Culpepper (who had great stats like all Minny QBs in that era and great individual skills--but always failed misreably when the stakes rise, a choker and anti-thesis of a QB leader) and Vick. In Vick's 6 NFL years he never broke a 56% completion % (and I don't think did any better in college), VY in year 2 was at 62% in college had a year at 65% (70% against opponents with winning records). Their innate passing abilities (timing, touch, reading the field) are very different and much in favor of VY. Now I am not going to say VY has Vick's level of running ability, though I think VY compares well in this regard to the next tier of thrower-runners like McNabb, Culpepper, Steve Young, etc. Finally nobody is saying he doesn't need to improve. But VY hasn't gotten near the patience by year 2 that Eli Manning had gotten until late in Eli's year 4 despite Eli having much superior weapons from day 1 and more training as a pro style QB before entering the NFL. You have some buffoons here wondering if Tenn should use a 1st round pick on a QB
When everyone was piling on McNabb (who by the way has surpassed VY's 62% completion % this year one time in his 9 years) you didn't seem to mind folks like myself saying you have to consider the circumstances (e.g., health of himself and other players, (lack of) weapons, etc). I don't call those "excuses" but considering the context and big picture. Steve Young would have been written off based on his 1st two Tampa years, fortunately (but sucky for us Boys fans) someone saw the bigger picture. Vince Young hasn't even been nearly as bad--in fact a mix of excellent, mediocre and poor games even in this "down" year 2.
