Make a 10 x 10 grid...then number each box ...when people sign up, they put their name inside one of the numbered boxes not already occupied
Is that really all there is? Set a price per square and then figure out the payouts? I thought someone on here would know of a website that had info. I am gonna try this one.
Bucs vs. Titans would be the worst possible matchup. God please give me an all-pirate Superbowl....Raiders and Bucs. Gruden vs. his old team...ahhh the drama.
The way I thought it was done was that each square was worth the same cost (say $10) and each column and row is numbered 0-9. The rows represent one team and the columns represent another team. People pick squares depending on what they believe the final score will be (actually the last digit of the final score for each team) So say I think the Eagles beat the Raiders 77-0. I would pick the box with the Raiders column that ends in 0 and the Eagles row that ends in 7. At least that's the way I've always done it.
Sonny...set a price and set the payout format before yuo start selling the boxes. Its simple. The numbered boxes make it easier on you in case someone calls in to get their numbers...this way you only have to find the numbered box instead of looking for a particular name. Once the boxes are sold out, have someone witness the numerbs/teams. Flip a coin...heads means the NFC team is on top, tails, means the AFC team is on top. Then take a the Ace thru Ten out of a deck of cards. Shuffle them up and flip em over. THose are the numbers in the top of the grid...then do the same for the side. Just so you have something to go on...most box pools I have been in give 50% to the winner of the final score, 25% to the halftime winner, the 12.5 % to the 1st and 3rd quarter winners. (IE. if its a 10 dollar per box pool, you have 1000 total dollar for prize money...500 goes to the final score, 250 to halftime and 125 to 1st and 3rd qtrs)
drapg...ive neveer heard of a box pool where you can select which numbers you want...granted, the possibilities of certain numbers have become greater since the 2 point conversion was implemented..but for the most part, you'd never sell out a pool if all the bad numbers were left for the end.
Perhaps, but I've been able to sell out pools for years, so it does work. As long as you post it in a high traffic area (like the game room/break room at your office), the squares go pretty fast, regardless of "good/bad numbers".
I've never liked office/work pools for the Superbowl or March Madness...the fat chick that has never watched a day of sports in her life always seems to win...
Oakland and Philly will both win this weekend. It will be a rematch of the Super Bowl they played against each other in 1980 (the year Oakland went as a wild card, beating the Oilers in the first round). Only this year, Philly will gain revenge on the Raiders. The Super Bowl is the Eagles' to lose. They have the toughest defense in the league right now.
Tampa has better run stoppers (just barely), Philly has better pass coverage. They both do an EXCELLENT job of rushing the passer and have GREAT Linebackers. Except for that big fat dude Levon Kirkland on Philly, he should be a lineman.
The Raiders-Titans game should be good, Since the Raiders will probably respect the Titans Run defense, I expect the Titans to play a lot of zone. The Key against the Raiders is to know when to blitz, The Jets could not get to Gannon against the Raiders O-Line. The X Factor again will be Jerry Porter against the middle of the field, when you get Porter in zone coverage, all he has to do is blow past his man and he's open, Gannon exploited this to perfection in the 2nd half yesterday. The way the Titans play on offense, All the Raiders really need to do is play a lot of deep coverage, McNair doesn't throw short a whole lot, as Long as we have Rod Woodson back I don't think we'll give up anything huge. I don't expect Wycheck to have a game like he did against Pittsburgh, in the 3-4 the fastest LB's blitz, leaving the coverage open for the TE. The Raiders have 3 linebackers who can Blitz (Romonowski), Tackle (Harris), and Cover (Barton). Eddie George does not have the speed to do anything against us even if he plays, You need a shifty back to have any sucess running the ball. Sam Adams and John Parrella are too good to let themselves get pushed around by a power running attack. The Titans have had a good run, but injuries have caught up with them, and the Raiders have just as much momentum and heart. Oakland vs Tampa Bay in the Gruden Bowl.
Jerry Porter will be tough to cover. For two reasons. Brown and Rice lit us up in the first game. So Tenn has to focus on them instead of Porter. And 2) A. Dyson may not play. Big advantage to Oakland.
McNair is ok George is pending, but should be ok Rocky Boiman - Special Team duty only A. Dyson - May not play.
Fisher was on the post game (or pre-game) show for CBS yesterday and he said that Eddie and Steve were both OK and will play.
The guys throwing arm could be hanging out of socket and he's still list himself as OK! Gotta love the man. Thanks for the info Sonny.
