Dude was a tackling beast last year. No real prior history of head injuries either. Crazy, good for him though.

Especially crazy because he's not even 24 yet.

Borland was a stud. This is pretty unprecedented for a young player with no prior history of concussions.

It makes you wonder just what the hell is going on in that locker room.

It probably played into the fact of his stature. For his size he would need to wreck shop every play like he did last year. That much hard knocks for too long will definitely shorten your life.

49ers are screwed at LB though. Borland was Willis' replacement. Bowman off of major leg injury. A wacked out OLB that they have no clue about in Aldon Smith. York destroying the team by getting rid of the best Coach they've had in two decades.

I feel for that fan base.

    Patrick Willis, 30
    Jake Locker, 26
    Jason Worilds, 27
    Chris Borland, 24

    Good for them!

Rather walk away "too early" than "too late".

    Totally agree.

Unlike the NBA, guys can't play "until the last drop" in the NFL without risking their long term health.

Borland will retire with career earnings of less than 200k.

Things like this make the long term future of the NFL look rather bleak. Good for Borland, though. If it's not worth it, don't do it.

That's a damn good start to life at 24 years old.

I think we will start to see retirement at 30 become the norm in the NFL very soon.

Get drafted, play 3-4 years for peanuts, cash in, and check out.

    Eh...

I think I would have gotten my 4 years in for the pension.
