Big gamble for the Vikings, but come on, he's young and he just led the league in sacks. They only had to give up a #17 and two third round picks. I would hate to be a Chiefs fan. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3362701 Jared Allen, the franchise player for the Kansas City Chiefs, is heading to a new franchise, the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple sources. Late Tuesday night, the Chiefs and the Vikings reached an agreement on a trade package, and at roughly the same time, Allen reached an agreement in principle on a contract with the Vikings. Upon reaching the contract agreement, Allen headed to the airport and left for Minnesota. The Kansas City Star reported on Tuesday night that Allen agreed to one of the largest contracts for a defensive player -- six years for almost $74 million with more than $31 million guaranteed. Sources said the Vikings included a second third-round pick (No. 73) in the 2008 draft to get the deal done. They had been offering a No. 1 pick (17th in the first round) and a No. 3 (No. 82). The teams also swapped spots in the sixth round with the Vikings getting a better spot in the sixth round, sources said. Allen, a fourth-year defensive end out of Idaho State, led the league in sacks last season with 15½. The Chiefs, who are trying to get younger, now have the fifth pick in the first round and presumably the Vikings pick, which is the 17th. Allen had made it clear to the Chiefs that he wouldn't sign a long-term deal with the team. Now, the Chiefs can use the fifth pick in the first round to find a pass-rushing replacement, either Vernon Gholston of Ohio State or Chris Long of Virginia. This just shows how iffy the NFL draft is. This dude comes out of Idaho State not drafted until the fourth round in the 04 draft and he becomes all pro, but The Texans trade the farm to move up and get Jason Babin and get basically nothing.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=147211&page=2 I put this in the draft forum since this really changes the draft, especially for the Texans. The Chiefs will not have to pick up a DE at #5, Long or Gholston will be the pick. However, the Chiefs are also in desperate need of a LT just like us, so should one fall, the Chiefs will most likely pick him up right before we do.
Great move for the Vikes --- 1st round draft picks demand too much money for too much risk. Why not trade for a proven talent. Now if they would just find a quarter back
Jets are supposedly looking to move up for D-Mac. Rumor right now is a deal involving the 2nd pick from the Rams, who could still probably get one of Gholston, C.Long, Dorsey or Ellis at 6.
This thread is getting off on a draft tangent anyway so let's move back to the official NFL draft thread.
I read that the Jets are looking to move up for Matt Ryan since the Falcons will more than likely pick him up at #3.
