"poor wittle" Peyton? What's your issue with Manning? He's the 2 time MVP. Last season he got the MVP without your so called "Peyton Rule". How do explain that one? It's not like Peyton Manning got good just because of this rule, that's for sure.
I don't have an issue with Peyton, I just know he will fold in a big game. But yes, I do have a problem with the NFL basically taking away any means of defense from corners just because one of its golden boys couldn't get over the hump. I don't think you will find an NFL analyst who would say Peyton faced the same level of defense that Marino did as far as rules are concerned. The NFL overly enforcing that rule has resulted in a year of numbers that are basically an anamoly because poor wittle Peyton had a bad game last season.
Wasn't it always a rule... its just that the NFL decided to "enforce" it this year? Much like the NBA decided to "enforce" contact as fouls in order to stop the physical defenses.
Its the reason they decided to enforce it, because the Colts organization whined after their game last season
Agreed... I'm just saying that it wasn't like they invented a whole new rule for the guy... it was made a rule in the first place for a reason. More teams were starting to take advantage of New England's strategy (and before they played the Rams in the 2002 Super Bowl, you didn't see much physical play out of the CB position). TB also won a Super Bowl using similiar tactics (which were instilled by... you guessed it, Tony Dungy and Monty Kiffen).
Let's not forget that the Pat's defense was able to dominate even without Richard Seymour. I thought that the Colt's had some questionable play calling. The Colts just didn't try to throw deep. On occassion, Vrabel was covering Stokley and McGinness was covering Dallas Clark and Manning had a fair amount of time to throw. Pats will have a harder time in Pittsburgh next week. Go Pats!
preach on, preacher!!! everytime i agree with you, i have to point it out...and i agree wholeheartedly. 0 TD's for the TD king. great regular season player so far in his career...very, very mediocre playoff player so far in his career. colts suck!!!
Great defense always beats great offense, especially in cold weather. I don't see why anyone was surprised at the outcome. I thought Manning and co. would score more than 3 points, but the result was never in doubt in my mind.
Wow the Pats put on a defensive clinic. I didn't think they could do it with out their top 2 corners but the proved me wrong. Eagles vs Patriots in the Superbowl with the Patriots taking another one.
I really thought this was the year the Colts did it, but as soon as I saw the snow I knew it was over. The thing I cannot figure out is it the system, the players or the game plan. I mean they were without 2 defensive supertstars and still shut the Colts down. I think the Pats beat the Steelers and go back to the SB
I thought the Colts would win but underestimated the NE team and Billicheck. To lose 2 Pro Bowlers on defense plus the other corner and play like that is a testament to their players and coaches. It will take a great effort to knock NE off, right now I don't see it. Not by Pittsburg, not by the Eagles, and not by the Falcons though I'd love to see them do it. While Manning did not play great, I'd say he played better than his receivers. I also think he played better than Dungy and the OC coached. You would have thought they would have tried to change the tempo like doing a no huddle or something early in the game. Football is a game of 22 guys, really more given subs and special teams. To say Brady versus Manning was the difference is crazy. Both are fine football players, one has a better team behind him. Call it the Joe Montana/Terry Bradshaw/Troy Aikman factor, I don't believe they were equal to their counterparts like Elway/Staubach/Farve in their primes as individual football players, but the best teams usually win in the NFL, not the best player among the good teams.
