I've seen a couple of mock drafts that have us taking Safety Patrick Chung from Oregon in the 2nd round... Via Draftcountown.com Strengths: Good bulk...Very physical and aggressive...A reliable tackler who will deliver the big hit...Strong and tough...Has a burst to close...Does a fantastic job against the run...Fluid hips to turn and run...Good range...Decent hands and ball skills...Has a non-stop motor...Terrific instincts / awareness...Intense and competitive...Major special teams potential...Great work ethic...Durable...Has lots of experience against top competition...Team leader in every sense...Was super productive. Weaknesses: Is a bit shorter than you'd prefer...Does not have great speed...Can be too aggressive at times...May have some trouble matching up with receivers in man coverage...Not a true deep middle safety...Has a tendency to overpursue...Can still do a better job of shedding blocks. Notes: Was born in Kingston, Jamaica...Played soccer as a youngster and didn't get into American football until right before high school...Was only 16 years old when he started college...A four-year starter for the Ducks...Was a 2nd Team All-American in 2007...Named 1st Team All-Pac-10 as a junior and senior...Initially entered the 2008 NFL Draft after his junior season before reversing course and returning to Eugene...Was also a special teams ace for the Ducks and could make Pro Bowls at the next level based on that ability alone...Might be a bit of a free safety / strong safety 'tweener in that he plays like an in-the-box type but is built more like a coverage guy...Playmaker who is always around the action...Physical tools aren't amazing but they are adequate across the board and intangibles are top-notch...Will at the very least enjoy a long career as a backup but should not have any trouble earning a starting job...The type of player all good teams need. It's looking better and better for the Texans, with many teams ahead of us possibly taking offensive tackles. There could, and might, be four offensive tackles taken ahead of us. There also could be one or two defensive ends taken ahead of Orakpo(somehow). With all this said, there is, I would say, about a 15% chance that Orakpo falls to us. If that somehow happens, I would probably piddle a bit in my pants and scream in excitement. After saying all this, I think that if the Saints, picking 14th (one ahead of us), don't go with Jenkins, there's a good chance he could fall to us. I say if Orakpo (doubtful) or Jenkins are there at 15, you take them. If not, look for a trade down. I don't particularly ant one of the USC linebackers, but if we do take them, I hope it's not from the 15 slot.
Seriously. The NFL draft starts getting coverage right after the super bowl, dragging on for months until the actual event happens, and now we have to wait until 3pm for the thing to start?
Many people hand-picked Chung after the season, saying that they hoped we got him in the second round. I would love to have him, should he be available. I have a two-person second-round wish-list: Patrick Chung Max Unger I doubt either are left for us.
What are the chances we address Corner in the 2nd round? Someone like Vontae Davis from Illinois if he were to be there in the 2nd... Heres another scenario....grab Jenkins in the 1st if available which is entirely still a possibilty, and address LB in the 2nd with a guy like Clint Sintim from Virginia.
I think if Davis isn't drafted in the first, he'll go early second. He's supposedly got character issues, so he might drop a bit, but I don't see him lasting too long in the second. Another pick I would love to see in the second round is Connor Barwin from Cincinnati. He can play defensive end, outside linebacker, and tight end efficiently. He's apparently in the Mike Vrabel mold, and, unfortunately, I don't see him lasting past the Patriots pick in the early second round.
I say Orakpo. You can take a chance on a safety or corner in the second round. If Orakpo is there, I say you make the pick as soon as you get a chance. I could end up eating my words, but I think Orakpo is the best end in this class, and pairing him with Mario Williams would immediately make our secondary LOADS better. I don't care how much money you spend on Antonio Smith, Orakpo can play end, or conceivably Outside Backer.
I agree with that. The thought of a front four of Williams, Smith, (an improved) Okoye and Orakpo would be an absolute beast. Sadly, I don't see Orakpo lasting past the 11th pick.
apparently Jags and Jets have a deal in place to swap picks according to NFLnetwork. Jets wanna scoop up a QB? I dont think Sanchez will be there
I think that if Orakpo is available to them, Buffalo will have a huge debate on their hands. They need a pass rusher in the worst way, but they've also got to build their o-line. I think Oher could be a nice choice for them. For our sake, I hope they go with Oher. With their second pick of the first round, I see them going after Brandon Pettigrew, should he be available. Tight end is a huge need for them. I think they should even trade up to get him if needed. In the second round, I think they address their DE situation. This draft is deep in both DE's and OT's. I just think that, given their young quarterback (and for the Texans sake), they go Tackle in the first round. One thing I've learned, though, from living in the Buffalo area for the last few years, never try to predict what the Bills will do. Often times they will do just the opposite. I've seen them reach in the first round many times....
Jesus Christ, if The Raiders seriously take Darrius Heyward-Bey at 7 with Maclin and Crabtree still on the board I'm going to rip up my Jamarcus jersey.
You should do that anyway lol jk But seriously that year I thought yall were gonna take A.P. with the 1st pick in the draft.
Apparently the Raiders are really really high on this kid Heyward-Bey...I agree with you Moe, thats a reach for him. Although you can never tell, the guy could end up being the best reciever in the draft.
Honestly, it wouldn't be the that bad, I think Crabtree and Maclin both have some pretty big knocks against them. Heyward-Bey may have the size and speed, but a lot of people are calling him the next Troy Williamson, because he wasn't even that productive in College.
