Mcclain says in his blog that the Texans liked Glenn Coffee and Shonn Greene, but they were both gone when they were looking to take them. I guess they weren't too enamored with anyone else. http://blogs.chron.com/nfl/2009/04/lets_make_sense_of_the_te_pick.html We'll sign an UFA or two, grab a guy off the waiver wire, and somehow or another we'll find the right backs to go into the season with. Don't forget Moats is a decent runner too, even though he's not the bruiser we're looking for. I'm stoked about our improved red-zone offense with Casey and possibly Hill. Kubiak and Shanahan have to be licking their chops at the possibilities with the offense now. Caldwell could end up beating out Myers or Brisiel too. Definitely not what we were expecting all-around but we got some players in this draft that will make a difference. Still a little worreid about the DT spot though..hopefully coaching will improve the underachieving talent we have there.
They're probably going to sign 1 or 2 undrafted RB FAs, by the looks of it, there's a couple bigger backs that would be very nice picks, we just have to get to them first... P.J. Hill Jeremiah Johnson Ian Johnson Arian Foster
Well, right now there are some running backs that I wouldn't mind signing who haven't been drafted yet. Ian Johnson RB Boise State PJ Hill RB Wisconsin Arian Foster RB Tennessee Jorvorskie Lane RB Texas A&M Rodney Ferguson RB New Mexico Walter Mendenhall RB Illinois State maybe a trade? Sign a free agent Deuce Mccalister Michael Pittman Deshaun Foster Rudi Johnson
Absolutely agreed, I still can't believe we didn't take a single DT in the draft. Even if Amobi improves a lot, I've never been a fan of Travis Johnson, Okam has never lived up to his potential so I'm not holding my breath, and while Shaun Cody has some potential, I'm not excited about a guy who couldn't even start for the Lions.
I'm a little confused with the selections of 2 TEs. Not confused, just worried that the texans are preparing for the worse case scenario with daniels contract. other than that, I give them an A++++, not a bias fan here.
3. Antoine Caldwell (C) - Don't know too much about Caldwell but he has decent size and was a 3 year starter in the SEC. This kid has the best resume' of anyone we drafted. All American, degree in three years, dominate in the SEC
Daniels already made rumblings that he is not happy with his contract. He isn't acting like Robinson yet, but I am happy they are preparing to make him expendable should he want to hold the team hostage.
The more I read about our guys, the happier I am. It looks like we quitely had a stellar draft. We didn't get a head turner, but we got what we needed and also got a TON of utility. If we add a complimentary back to Slaton from the UDFAs then I will be a happy, happy camper.
Wish we could have somehow gotten Gartrell Johnson from Colorado State. He went pick 134 (late 4th Round) to San Diego. Other than that, I'm happy with our draft. I hope we can nab Ian Johnson. I see him as a productive NFL back.
Dang. That's what I get for paying attention to the second day. Bad signing for Johnson, in my opinion. Why would you sign with a back-loaded team when trying to catch on? I think he had a chance to eventually start in the NFL, but not with Minnesota. Arian Foster is an okay signing. Edit: I wouldn't mind picking up Deshaun Foster on the cheap.
Looks like we also signed Jeremiah Johnson. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6393184.html
Texans have signed Doug Dedrick OT Iowa Jason Watkins OT Florida Arian Foster RB Tennessee Tim Jamison DE Michigan Jeremiah Johnson RB Oregon Josh Leonard DT Hawaii I think of these guys Jason Watkins, Arian Foster and Tim Jamison have a good chance of making the roster
