Kind of funny that the guy you guys have been screaming about is still on the board 2 rounds after you started calling for him...
McCain is a good pick... we might be able to get Rashad Jennings or PJ Hill or Arian Foster in the 7th or maybe we're trading up
Hill is gonna have to gain 35-40 lbs. to play OT in the NFL. I agree that Casey is a steal in the 5th, but it seems we may leave the draft without picking up a DT or RB, which was 2 of our more pressing needs. Oh well, Kubiak/Smith have had a pretty good draft record so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Outside of being a big running back, do any of you know about Jennings? If 32 teams have passed on him the last 3 rounds when you started calling for him, don't you think that there might be an issue? To a point, a big running back is not hard to find. The Texans have just done a bad job relying on older ones to fill the void. Secondary help is always a need with this team until we have 6 good ones back there...
Brice McCain - CB - Utah 5’9” - 186 lbs. Career Notes All-State, All-Area, and All-District as a prep Running Back and Cornerback, Brice was also named Terrell High’s (Texas) MVP. During his prep career he played RB, CB, WR, and PR/KR. He also was a lettermen in basketball and track. His first season with Utah he played in all 10 games at CB, and started in one contest. In his final 3 years playing for the Utes he continued to improve each season. In 2006 he was All-MWC kick returner even though he didn’t start returning kicks until Game 5! He also led the team with 5 pass break ups, and had 28 total tackles to go along with 1 interception. In 2007 he was named 2nd team All-MWC as a CB, and his stats reflected the improvement. He had 11 pass break ups (including a school record 4 against New Mexico), 28 total tackles, and 1 interception. His final season he continued to improve his game and was named 1st team All-MWC. He started all 13 games for the second time in his career and finished the season with 35 total tackles, 5 pass breakups, and 1 interception. Scouting Report positives Speed, speed, and more speed. During his college career he was clocked at an impressive 4.28 40, and ran an official time of 4.33 and 4.34 at his pro day. He can mirror receivers downfield and stay with them stride for stride. Played primarily in man coverage and was rarely tested because QBs would rather go to another read instead of testing that speed. Good lateral agility and change of direction, Brice does a good job of staying with receivers through double moves. McCain is a versatile player that will earn playing time as a returner in the pros. negatives A small CB that may struggle matching up against physical receivers. Not a strong tackler as he often turns down contact and does not wrap up. Can make a play on the football in the air, but rarely comes down with the interception. Because of his lack of ideal size he can get locked on by blockers downfield. http://draftguys.com/index.php/articles/1/dynamic_duo_utah_cbs_sean_smith_and_brice_mccain/ That's fast!
So, small and fast. Well, I guess at this point you can get a corner who's big or fast, but not both. I'm wondering who Jennings ticked off though. I guess his stats are discounted since he's a 1AA'er.
