There are some pretty good coaches out there to choose from if you're St. Louis or Cleveland or anybody else looking for a head coach.
looks like Garrett (Cowgirls) is going to be HC of the Rams. wtf are the Chiefs waiting for? hire Spagnuolo already.
So both Cowboys coordinators are gone. How much does anybody wanna bet that Wade Phillips gets fired? I think it's a done deal now. What assistants would go to Dallas with a roast duck head coach like Phillips? Time to build a new staff from scratch and time to kick TO out the door before hiring a new coach. But as someone who dislikes the Cowboys, I hope they do neither.
I guess Spagnuolo is going to the Rams. Report: Rams hire Giants’ Spagnuolo as head coach By Sports Network The Sports Network St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Rams have reportedly made New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo their new head coach. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the two sides are negotiating his contract and an official announcement should come from the Rams later Saturday. Spagnuolo has been the Giants’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons, having been hired in January 2007 after eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. His defensive unit ranked fifth in the NFL in both yardage allowed per game (292.0) and points allowed per game (18.4) this past season -- a stark turnaround from the season before Spagnuolo’s arrival, when the Giants ranked 25th, allowing 342.4 ypg.
Todd Haley To Kansas City Collinsworth: Haley will be Chiefs' new coach NBC Sports analyst Cris Collinsworth expects Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley to become the Chiefs’ next head coach. It’s becoming more apparent that the Chiefs are waiting until after the Super Bowl to identify their next head coach _ or why not send Herm Edwards to the Senior Bowl and let him replace assistants who are fleeing? Collinsworth, who spent time with Haley before covering the Cardinals’ wild-card win over Atlanta for NBC and will work the Super Bowl, said Haley’s star has risen higher than anyone’s during the playoffs. “I think he’ll be the coach in Kansas City,” Collinsworth told me Tuesday on a teleconference. “I’m watching what’s happening with all the (new) coaches, and we’ve seen some of the defensive coaches come off the board, and the one guy nobody is talking about that has surprised me, and it’s because (the Cardinals) flew so far under the radar screen, was Haley. He’s not under the radar screen anymore. “The biggest winner who has come out of this run by the Arizona Cardinals has been Todd Haley.” Haley worked with new Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli with the New York Jets during 1997-99. Some have speculated Pioli may hire Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, but Ferentz' son, James, will be a sophomore offensive lineman on the Hawkeyes' football team next season, and it's hard to believe Kirk will want to walk away from that. And if Ferentz was the choice, why not make the move now? Sometimes, timing is everything. For more on what Collinsworth said about Haley, check out Wednesday's Kansas City Star.
attention MoesTavern: looks like Al Saunders is going to be your new OC, thoughts? I sure missed Al the last few seasons. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/21/SPB915E7KB.DTL The Raiders will interview longtime NFL assistant Al Saunders for their offensive-coordinator opening, a team official confirmed Tuesday. Saunders, who specializes in the "Air Coryell" passing game, held the same position with the Rams the past three seasons before losing his job with the rest of the staff. He was the Chargers' head coach from 1986 through '88 but is not expected to interview for the Raiders' head-coaching position. "We expect to talk to him in the next day or two," team executive John Herrera said. "He's a guy we've known for a long time on the other side of the field." With no head coach in place, the Raiders had one candidate drop from the running Tuesday - linebackers coach Don Martindale is finalizing a deal to join the Broncos' defensive staff. Martindale interviewed for the Raiders' defensive-coordinator job Saturday in a four-minute meeting that ended up centering on the head-coaching position. When the Raiders publicly denied Martindale was a head-coach candidate, he decided to leave the organization after five years. He also weighed defensive-assistant offers from the Browns, Jets and Ravens before joining Broncos defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. That gives the Raiders yet another staff position to fill. They need offensive and defensive coordinators, along with lead assistants at tight end, offensive line, receivers, defensive line and linebackers. Saunders spent five seasons with the Chiefs and seven with the Chargers, using the passing game he studied under San Diego State coach Don Coryell in the 1970s. He was also on the Rams' offensive staff when they ran "The Greatest Show on Turf," 1999-2000. It isn't known if the next offensive coordinator actually will run the Raiders' offense. Head coach Lane Kiffin called the offensive plays during his 20-game stay, and interim head man Tom Cable took over the play-calling in the second half of last season. Cable's contract expired last week but he continues to work for the Raiders - terms of that arrangement are not known. Cable, who might retain his job, is part of the team's contingent at this week's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. the bolded part is false, Saunders was OC/AHC of the Washington Redskins in 2006-07.
Yeah pretty shocked, but smart move by KC. Shannahan is the hoe of the AFC West. I guess if KC ever fires him his next stop will be San Diego.
Adam Schefter is reporting this as total BS! haha, Mortenson is dreadfully wrong so much. http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/01/23/adam-schefter-chris-mortensen-is-wrong-on-chiefs-shanahan-repor/
With Scott Pioli running the show, Shanahan might be a decent choice. One thing for sure is he cannot be given control over drafting, trades or contracts.
Mortensen is now back tracking haha! Shanahan could not be reached for comment and has not responded to text message inquiries. A Chiefs spokesman had no comment. An NBC-TV affiliate in Kansas City reported Shanahan as a possibility at midweek but a team source and a source close to Shanahan either denied or downplayed the story. A Chiefs official told Mortensen on Friday night that he did not believe Shanahan would be the team's next coach. The official fell short of entirely ruling it out. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3855917
