Not really sure that $300,000 a year before taxes, for an average of 3.5 years is worth the long term health effects of concussions, steroids, broken bones and early onset arthritis. Guys that last less than 3 years in the league won't even have any sort of pension to fall back on, while those that do get a whopping $200 per season in the NFL per month.
All that counts is that they don't waste the pick. Get an impact player (see Brian Cushing!!) If you get an impact player with your #1 pick and a potential all pro with your #2 pick and then some depth and starter in later rounds you have a super draft. Texans need: A defensive tackle that can collapse the middle. A free safety that can get interceptions and cover. A running back that can be a #1 back and really be a threat off the passing attack Depth on the defensive line and the offensive line Depth at corner, linebacker and WR Also they need to consider a back up QB, a little upgrade in case Matt goes down Would love to see them get McCain from Alabama in rd. 1- that would give them some very disruptive LB's Also would like to see Conner Barwin develop more so they don't have to draft another pass rusher. They still need more pressure on the QB This would best be handled by using a 2 or 3 pick on a disruptive DT Need depth at OT- really important in case Brown or Winston go down. Love to have another very good cover corner, still not sold totally on Grover or McBain Will Dunta be back? He has lost a step but would make a nice free safety? Anyways draft really well and we definately can make a run next season.
I think you debunked your own argument about potential, but Taylor Mays is not needed when Bernard Pollard did a great job this year. We need a ballhawking free safety like an Earl Thomas, not another in-the-box LB posing as a strong safety.
Why do you say this? The NFL players take home a larger percentage of the total revenue than baseball players do. The NFL players would gladly resign the current CBA. It's the owners who feel like they are getting screwed and are tearing it up, not the players. Yes, the players have demands that they want met, but the owners are the ones with the real "poison pill" demands that could lead to a lockout. I'm not taking a side here, but please keep all that in mind. The players are not the ones that want the CBA changed dramatically. Think back to when this CBA was signed. The day of there were already owners who were lamenting signing it and referenced their ability to tear it up down the road.
Why is everyone writing off Steve Slaton? He had a bad year but it might have been because of his injury. He is a RB who can run but he is also a good receiver. Texans shouldn't be using their 1st or 2nd round pick on another RB because they have more pressing needs.
Wait... so you are actually endorsing the Senile old Mafioso Boss method of drafting? You're better than that.
