I like Wolf at GM with Highsmith, solid/proven team. However, I want a cultural remake of the franchise and would really like us to bring in a guy like Peyton Manning. I know many will disagree and complain he has no FO experience, the latter being true. However, he'll set a tone and will surround himself with people he needs to build a winner. Manning knows football and I believe he's been waiting on the right opportunity. This one isn't perfect, but we are certainly a diamond in the rough. He can build his FO staff and hire his own coach. Ok, with that said, not a fan of McDaniels at all. I lived in CO when he was Broncos Coach and he was fairly unimpressive. Smith is interesting, but has spent most of his career with the Titans. Not sure how his approach will fit and again, I'm not looking to replicate anyone else's aura--I want a Houston Texan culture that is focused on building and becoming a Champion.
He is making almost $10 million right now, while getting the best players. He is not leaving Clemson.
Eric B HC OC ?? Karl Dunbar DC if Weaver isn’t retained. Karl Dunbar coached with Eric B in Minnesota.
saying he doesn't like music playing in the locker room that uses the n-word might make him old-fashioned, but hardly racist
I'm seeing McDaniels being a name being mentioned - please no more Belichick disciples. To my knowledge, the most successful HC coming from Belichick's coaching tree has been BoB, and that's saying very little. McDaniels was already a failure in Denver. Not saying he'd be a failure a 2nd time around, but let some other team take a chance on him.
"Lamar, run 12-15 times a game. We'll sprinkle in some runs for Ingram and other RBs too" Has it been effective? Sure but how much of that is on Jackson's skills alone? Unless we want to turn Watson into a running back and not an actual passer (something he's a lot better at than Lamar is), I don't see how Roman would fit here. Other OCs? McDaniels: he's a proven OC. He's creative enough to build an offense around Tom Brady and a bunch of subpar WRs the past few years and now he's created an offense that fit Cam's strengths. Bieniemy: He's had one more year under his belt as an OC in KC than Roman has in Baltimore. Maybe I'm overrating Deshaun but he's closer to a Mahomes than he is to a Lamar Jackson. He's also been with KC for a while (since 2013) first as a running backs coach. I would think he's picked up a thing or three from Reid in the 7 years he's been there.
This is my thoughts on Roman system too. I really hope Watson turns it back around and becomes that Mahomes/Wilson/Rodgers type of QB. If he doesn’t, we’re screwed.
Roman's last stop was as OC for the Bills in 2015 and 2016. Bills 2015: 1st in Total Rushing Yards 1st in Rushing Yards per game 13th in Passing Yards per game 13th in Total Passing Yards Bills 2016: 1st in Total Rushing Yards 1st in Rushing Yards per game 16th in Passing Yards per game 16th in Total Passing Yards So is Roman pretty good at planning the rushing game/attack? Yes would be an understatement. There's nothing wrong with that because Harbaugh saw Lamar as a run threat and he brought Roman in. That being said, those two Bills teams also had a prime Shady McCoy at their plan of attack. We don't have any close to a McCoy on our team and it would be a total waste of Watson to switch to a more run-heavy offense.
Agreed, Romans system is run heavy (which I don’t mind) but it’s also simple one read passing system for most part. It hasn’t had much playoff success. I liken it to Dantoni system honestly.
