And yet things always do change from year to year, both ways. this defense doesn’t have to become elite... they just have to make enough improvements to not be the worst in the league in two key aspects (run stopping, and TO differential which is largely a fluke stat). The Titans couldn’t stop anybody (especially on 3rd down) and can’t sack the QB... and they played almost the exact same schedule minus the Pats/Chiefs.
We need discipline in the trenches. Along the O-line(bye Devlin) and the D-line. So many mistakes And broken coverages in the secondary. A new coach, philosophy can fix a lot of those things. definitely need more defensive talent though
The fact that we made it to the end of the season without having hired a GM and/or coach is concerning. The whole point of firing BOB mid-season was to give us the upperhand in our search and have first dibs... and we seems to be letting that slip away.
Not that we are in serious consideration for a top head coach candidate with teams like NYJ (worse situation, but based in the NY media market), LAC (LA media market, but also better talent situation)... but we can't even compete with JAX?
Im pumping the brakes on any "offensive minded" coach. We need a defensive guy who can advance that side of the ball as fast as humanly possible. In one offseason if he's lucky (lol I know), but the offense will fight as long as #4 is healthy and taking snaps. It would require the least amount of focus IMO. No way this team will compete with a defense like it had this year. No way. ALL THE ATTENTION should be paid to that side of the ball. It also kind of sucks to see Atlanta get first dibs on Bienemy and Saleh wish the Texans could have been that proactive. Even though Im sure they will get a chance to talk to them, sometimes those talks fast track right into a hire. Saleh is my guy.
Even with the poor personnel/picks situation, the Texans are still a good job. They have a QB which is the most important piece in the league, and ownership that is extremely patient. The cap situation can rectify itself pretty quickly with competent management.
The Caserio news is something I feared might happen. Caserio coming in means Cal is listening to Easterbunny more than the search firm or the group of advisors Cal spoke to about this. We hire Caserio is essentially saying Caserio/Easterbunny will run the team. This is the darkest timeline
Texans sitting on their hands. GM should have been hired weeks ago. Always ass backwards thinking with this team.
HOPEFULLY THEY ARE NOT trying to figure out a way to keep Easterby. Which would mean Caserio gets it. Which means Josh McDaniels? Another Belichek wannabe. And we can stay on this Patriots South (Wannabe) crap.
Head coaches don't care about media markets. Chargers with Herbert and JAX with Lawrence present good opportunities. I don't see the Jets, even with Fields, being a very enticing job at this point.
A hire made during the season means we didn't even give some of the top GM candidates a chance. That is a far worse scenario IMO.
OMG my anxiety dude! This is where Korn Ferry jumps in and saves the team from themselves right!? Really annoying to watch the other Coach/GM needy teams falling over themselves while the Texans "its okay" the house is not on fire meme of a front office continues to botch things in a patient manner. Easterby should only be called on to do grace before each meal - that is his only verifiable skill on a football team.
