If the Texans were seriously interested this would not be a remote interview. This is a check the box sideshow for the fans. That is all.
I’m guessing more than anything the second interviews are in person. That fact that he took the interview gives me a little hope.
My sources are telling me they are ironing out final details and should announce hiring after playoff game
That roster was built to win a championship when gruden arrived. Especially the defense. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit, he put a new offense in place to complete the team. A case can be made in that situation but our roster isn't in the same league. First round picks are more valuable in our situation we need pieces everywhere. I'd be fine with the late first that was originally reported but I think the saints GM is being greedy asking for 2. I'd love Payton but i don't want to give up that much draft equity.
LOL - a Zoom interview! The Texans have no intention of hiring Demeco Ryans. No trust on either side. This interview was done to appease the fans -- it's not a serious interview. Cal was probably eating chips & queso throughout.
This is what I'm seeing as potential Coordinator candidates for Ryans. Can't say I truly love any of them... Anyone like any of these guys? Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy, Kansas City Chiefs QB Coach: Offensive quality control coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012. Pat Shurmer, Denver Broncos Former Offensive Coordinator: Offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-2015. Mike LaFleur*, New York Jets Former Offensive Coordinator: Passing game coordinator with the 49ers from 2017-2020 Bobby Slowik*, San Francisco 49ers Passing Game Coordinator: Defensive quality control coach/passing game coordinator with 49ers from 2017-2022. Defensive Coordinator Richard Smith, Indianapolis Colts LB Coach: Defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans from 2006-2008. Jon Hoke, Atlanta Falcons DB Coach: DB coach for the Houston Texans from 2002-2008. Jeff Zgonina*, Washington Commanders DL Coach: DL Coach with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-2018. Jason Tarver, Cleveland Browns LB Coach: San Francisco 49ers LB coach from 2015-2017. Kris Kocurek*, San Francisco 49ers DL Coach: Served in this role from 2019-2022.
Odds for the Texans HC next season: Pep Hamilton: 2:1 Josh McCown: 4:1 Wade Phillips: 6:1 This is after they blow it with all of their initial interviews with real candidates.
With our "talent" on offense, it will NOT be easy to recruit a high caliber offensive coordinator to the Texans. That is why we need to hire a HEAD COACH who is an offensive mind. This is the only way. What OC worth their salt would want to inherit this offense? Or a rookie QB? None. But a solid offensive mind would make the move for the top job. Be smart about this!
