If Eberflus was being considered, what's the point in waiting? I fully expect we're looking at the final 2 here between EB and Leslie Frazier. Such a polarizing group too. One could re-ignite the fanbase from where we were a few weeks ago, and cause us to double down on our support, and another choice just cements that there will be a mass exodus of fans (and a certain QB).

What would be the point in hiring an offensive guy if the plan is to keep Tim Kelly in place?

Only thing I can think of is the Texans wanting to actually have a sit down interview with each candidate before making their choice. With all the vacancies filled, they really shouldn’t be in a rush to make a final decision. Sucks for fans kept limbo but should note that no team has hired a coach via virtual interview only.

That or it’s Frazier and we’re just waiting for when they are eliminated.

Well they already got slapped once for tampering so probably being very careful.

If it's Eberflus, they could announce it any day - no need to wait in that scenario, right?

Agree with this - it seems weird to hire EB but force him to keep Tim Kelly, who may be good, but I'd think you want to give your new offensive genius head coach his own offensive staff that's fully aligned with him.

This seems pretty shitty unless you are guaranteeing him the job, which suggests they have picked a HC and he wants to keep him. To deny interviews only to fire him in a few weeks would be horrific - though also very Texans-esque.

Guessing they know Tim Kelly could be the final straw...

Watson said he already spoke to chairman Cal McNair about keeping Kelly around and he said he would go to bat for Kelly with the new coach when the team made the hire of the new coach.

I don’t think they can demote him and prohibit him from interviewing for a higher level job. He would have to be OC here, I believe.

You think they'd deny him the chance to interview for other jobs just to keep him here to demote him?

If it were the Titans that were coming to try and interview Tim Kelly I can see why the Texans blocked it.

The Texans might be leaving open the possibilities of hiring a DC as HC, like Leslie Frazier.

It seems like quite a jump. He can stay in KC, be the number 1 offensive coordinator on the market and get a job.

Either way, I feel the writing is on the wall.
