Anyone been or lived there? Any tips appreciated. Especially about areas of town to live and areas to avoid.

Just watch Cops. They will show you all the places not to be. Seems like every episode is from New Mexico.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, Victoria Secret is headquarted in New Mexico somewhere. Seriously. Get a job there and live the dream.

i went there for a weekend once about 6 years ago. Nice enough place. Very small compared to Houston.

I couldn't tell you much about where to go, but it has a quaint town feel. Kinda like an Austin Lite.

Worst part about it? The news.

I could never get over the saying "That's why more New Mexicans get their news from us rather than the other guys."

Thanks, guys. Driving out from Atlanta Wednesday. Looking at apartments online, but could use an assist on location. Also good bars and vegetarian restaurants.

Definitely hit Old Town for some margs and nachos when you hit town.

My wife used to live in Rio Rancho (to the north) when I lived in Southern Colorado. I'll ask her about the areas. Rio Rancho was cool about 10 years ago, but it was more of a relaxed golf community than what you may be looking for. Pretty cool city, but small. Sante Fe and Taos aren't too far a drive, though.

cruise Central , it is the main drag there.

It runs from the moutains in the east through U of NM to downtown.

There is a tram that runs from town up to the Sandia Peak overlooking the city. Skiiing and great views can be found up there.

There are a few casinos within a short drive on several Indian Reservations.

I went to Albuquerque about a month back. Let me tell you, there ain't **** to do over there. The only thing to do in Alb. is to basically go skiing(which will take you an hour to reach) or stay in your hotel room.

Take an extra hour and drive to Sante Fe. It is a nice little town, with lots of arts stuff. The city center is also pretty cool.

Batman...I've only been through Albuquerque. Never spent any significant time there. However, if you plan on spending major time in Santa Fe, PM me and I will give you a rundown of places to go there.

I'm guessing Blake's Lotaburger will be out for you. :D

Check out Frontier on Central across from UNM. You can get some badass green chile stew there. The Flying Star is an awesome breakfast place as well.

My parents lived there for a couple of years, but unfortunately, I never really went out or anything whenever I went to visit.

Lived there from 1994 to 2001. I loved it. I would move back in an instant.

It has great weather, few insects and a beautiful mountain view. If you are coming from Atlanta, you may miss the trees. Coming from Houston, I had to adjust to that, but the lack of humidity more than made up for it.

I hope you like green chile, because everything comes with it. I had several friends who were vegetarians that were happy with the restaurant selection. My favorite is the avocado burrito at El Patio over by the University (I think on Harvard street).

If you like the outdoors, there is no shortage of things to do. I was not much into the night life, but I have heard others say it was slow.

Albuquerque has lots of culture and a different pace. Things do not move fast and some things are made to be a bigger deal than they would be elsewhere (ex. UNM basketball, the State Fair, Hot Air Balloon Festival). At first it seemed strange to me, then one day I noticed I enjoyed the pace and looked forward to the same events.

If you need more information, let me know. I still have lots of contacts in the area.

PS. I lived on the North West side of town. I would recommend it or what they call the Far North East Heights.

I've lived in ABQ for about a year now...I got to say it's grown on me, but growing up in Houston, the food still sux...

If anyone was trying to move here, I'd say move to Rio Rancho or the NE Heights...

Downtown on Central is pretty nice...A lot of bars and clubs...Try Maloney's and the Distillery...A good New Mexican place is La Esquina (Open during lunch only)...The Knob Hill area near UNM is nice pretty cool, try Martini Grill...If in Old Town, try the Melting Pot...

Remember in March and April, the winds here suck...

    Technically, it blows. :p

I had several outdoor volleyball and basketball games ruined by high winds. Time to pick up kite flying. ;)
